Got a question for you hardcore, crazy-DPS necros out there that are wiser than I could ever hope to be on this sort of thing.

I just got the Shiny Metallic Robe, which certainly looks pretty snazzy, but I'm a little leery on its stats vs the 10 second proc. I was previously wearing the Jarsath Robe of Royalty, alongside Dark Mail Gauntlets and White Dragonscale Cloak (do those procs stack?), and was switching out the two robes now and again while in Najena's Hollow - Despite the Metallic Robe procing more than a few times when I wore it (alas, we had no troub or magey-buffs, that I was aware of), I couldn't discern that much difference in DPS... for that matter, it seemed substantially lower, which seems ODD for a robe that's only 2 spell crit lower, 60 spell damage less, but has a proc for making me cast 100% faster for a good ten seconds. With potion/scroll buff, my spell crit is up to 75%, damage mod is 765... Casting speed mod is at 5% from mythic ONLY, boo (waiting for my pocket-troubador to get back from holiday and craft a few shard things for me, heh.)

Should I resume using the Jarsath Robe of Royalty? Save the Metallic for appearance or when I have a group with lots of proc chance plusses? Farm Najena's Hollow for the robe off the Jailor? Is there some better robe I ought shoot for (that isn't a raid-required one)?

Unlike say a Wizard or Warlock who have extremely long cast times on their spells, a super fast casting time for a Necromancer isn't going to generate a lot more DPS. It will help no question, but it won't be a major difference, especially since most necro spells take 2 seconds or less to cast anyway.

You'd probably be better off DPS wise sticking with the Jarsath Robe, or the void shard robes, or even the robe off of Varsoon in Palace of Ferzhul.

It will boost your DPS by quite a bit by allowing you to chain in your longer casting spells into a quick chain. Drain Life, Master Strike, Pandemic, Bats, Dumbfires, all turn into almost instance cast spells with the SMR proc. That's a ton of DPS for 10 seconds considering you can cut through your whole bar twice in that amount of time instead of only being able to get your quick shots out in 10 seconds naturally.

Two things bump Necro DPS the most noticably. Base spell damage/spell damage, and casting speed/recovery. If you can keep your crits up around 70% and your spell mod at about 750 wear the SMR. It will be a noticable difference. Try to keep your Drain Life base damage higher than 2700 though. If it's much lower get the bloodthirsty choker and that golden mask from old veksar.

Now that I've run with it for a while, I think I'm down with Xil on this. While it would be nice if the Robe had more spell crit or damage or what-not... The proc has actually proven to be deathly sexy, especially with any cast that increases cast and recovery.

Lord is gearing up the necro a serious balancing act. Getting out the spells more quickly also equates to more procs off the other gear, which definitively help with the damage. Out of curiosity, Xil, when you say base damage for Drain Life should be about 2700... Is that just self-buffed, hover-over DL, in which case my own is sitting at 2707, heals for 1004? Already sitting on the BTC, and I've been terribly tempted to grind Veks for that mask.

I guess if yer really that intrigued and/or that philanthropic, you could always gander via eq2players at Rakkoth and say which bits of what are inappropriate or redundant, heh.

The mask actually works now so I suggest all mage get it. Right now self buffed I sit at 2850 on Drain Life. With the Proc from the Mask (which is pretty well constant) it's over 3k. Raid buffed I sit at just shy of 3k standing still and spike up to 3250 or so with procs. Basically my drain life consistantly hits for 6500 damage which moves it up on the casting priority list.

I don't use the SMR personally though. Mostly because I'm lazy and don't have it lol... But givin the oppertunity I would use it for grouping. Not so much raiding because spell haste procs kinda wash into all the spell haste you get from the raid and it'd really tough to catch the proc and get off a spell that isn't already [Removed for Content] near casting instantly.

Another piece you might look into is the Ring of the Four Winds from the Ilse of Mara timeline. If you have the means I suggest getting that one for grouping as well. 5% reduction to all reuse timers static. Good stuff for raiding and grouping.

Pet Robe are pretty nice for raiding though depending on which one you get. The teir 2 shard robe is pretty nice but it's a pretty big loss of personal stats for a proc that's not % based. If the fights aren't long it's really not worth using. Some of the fabled robes in TSO though are insane and you can't even compare them to the SMR for raiding. Grouping is an entirely different animal though =)...
