Hi everyone.

I've got a warden already on the AB srver and i am thinking of making a fighter, the only one that really does interest me is being a monk. Unfortunately i know absoloutely nothing about this class.

Im sory if this is already posted somewhere else, but could someone possibly tell me the main advantages and disadvantages of being a monk?

Like, are they good solo'ers or do they depend on groups?

Are they an enjoyable class to play? etc etc

====

I'd just rather know whether or not it is worth making one, i'd rather find out now then 20 levels times and wasted my time.

-Kez

If monk is the only one that interests you then I would say roll one and play it. I will mention that all my friends tend to really like the monk class and say it is a blast play. A monk makes an excellent everyday norrath group mate that can tank, use a nice targetable heal (comes in handy if the healer is stifled) and do some decent damage as well.

Monks are good soloers for the everyday norrath questing but if you are looking to take down some hard solo content I would say go with an enchanter (illy or coercer) since they are such powerful classes. If you are looking for a class that can solo well and be monumental in groups/raids yet offers melee damage then a brigand or swashbuckler are very hard to beat.

As for end game (tso expansion) I would advise roaming the monk forum here for better info.

Monk is a fun and enjoyable class to play.

However with the tank updates round two coming up soonish we do not know what we are going to be like in the future, we may become less fun, we may become more fun.

There is very much a go anywhere feeling running around freely knowing that if you get too many mobs on you, that you can feign death and most likely survive. This lets us gets places and do things solo that very few classes can. High hps and avoidance that works very well now add to this.

Not the best for tanking multi mob encounters, its a lot of work and generally involves hitting the mobs for a second or two, then targeting the next mob in the group and doing that untill you've got them all locked on you, esp at lower levels. Paired with a warlock or other AE DPSer you'll be doing that the entire fight.

We also make great shiny collecting harvesting toons, small groups, duos, we make plate tanks better with our avoidance buff, and everyone cast faster with our raidwide. If we want the aggro on any one mob we own it!

We are not as cheap to twink out as we where a month or so ago with the changes to our aa line in str, you actually have to buy us weapons again. Leather hides and the armor made from them is still much cheaper for most of our levels then the plate version is. Blunt mastercrafted weapons are also generally inexpensive as everyone else seesm to go for slashing and crushing weapons.

We can currently outdamage less well played/geared scouts/casters of every type, but not better ones (unless they are a dirge/troub) this may change <shrug>

My main is a warden too. The big difference is that you will have to think which button to press. The monk has a lot of combat arts and you cant just press one after the other. Your solo survivability will go up or down on how you use your combat arts.

Excellent solo class. Actually there are not many places he cant reach on his own. Need to inspect a barrel in a heroic even con camp ? No problem After some levels, when you have a sufficient power pool you have invisibility long enough to cross a zone. Feign dead is very relaxing. You always can try to kill a mob and if it fails you can stop and try again without dying and running back. He has safe fall and can, after training it, jump down everywhere. If you put in AA he has a awesome sprint.

The monk is my only class that performs very well with mastercrafted. Your DPS depends on weapons though.

My biggest concern is the tankage. First of all i suck at that With a good group it can be fun though. With a single damage class teasing you its unfun. However, with increasing levels and AA its easier to hold aggro. I dont know about plate tanks, but the monk performs better with shaman wards. A player with good tank skills and a good legendary armour is able to tank any group content. I know, because i have healed a few through some of the harder instances.
