Hi everyone,

I have been thinking about taking up a tradeskill and was wondering these days if for near endgame or close to endgame situations how viable being a weaponsmith is. I know that with an alchemist i can make both poisons for myself and potions with a variety of nice effects but the later isnt really neccessary and the former seems to be quite cheap on my server.

My understanding is that other than making weapons a weaponsmith can make adornments. Are these more important or as important as having the ability to produce poisons and potions for a brigand?

Thankd in advance.

My zerker is a weaponsmith. My Brigand accidentally got so many levels (14) making frostfell stuff he's advanced along the path of alchemy, if only so as to take advantage of the high exp those frostfell recipes were giving.

Whenever I see a guildee gain levels as an outfitter I ask,"what're you gonna be, an armourer or tailor?" Weaponsmithing, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Consider what one person requires per tier. Over half a dozen bits of armour, similar of jewellry, several times that of adept3's, but only one or two weapons. Factor in the alchemists creation of poisons that even though it covers a niche market of scouts, also covers all fighter combat arts - all told, they're easily more useful.

Weaponsmithing transmuting is unfortunately not a tempting lure, they're all poo. The good weapon adornments are made by transmuters. Alchemists, however (like pretty much any class that isn't a weaponsmith) make some cracking adornments - with a range from treasured, through legendary up to fabled. Weaponsmiths get no such range, but have one fabled adornment, oddly for a casters neck peice.

At high ends there's also the faction items from Kunark. Weaponsmiths get to make whetstone type affairs, they provide a temporary postive modifier to combat stats. The comparisn between them and potions doesn't ake them a great seller or boon to a weaponsmiths ego. Alchemists get to make some useful items.

The previous crafting dev, Beghn, that brought in transmuting, I half believe he was tormented by a smith as a child and was getting revenge.

There are Alchemists all over the place, not nearly as many Weaponsmiths, well not past the 40's anyway. Generally see the same few people selling the mastercrafted weaponsmith stuff on my server. and sometimes what i want is not available on the broker for any price. Temp adornaments, or holdover Mastercrafted weapons for an alt.

Slipstones (4% double attack) are weaponsmith made. Generally speaking (at least on the Everfrost server), the poisons are not nearly as expensive as the slipstones.

If you're masochistic enough, level both crafters as each one makes a very important component for your dps. Slipstones from the Weaponsmith, Poisons from the Alchemist.
