I have had both of these skills for a couple of weeks now, have thoroughly tested them, and it amazes me how underwhelming both abilities are. I have tanked every instance in TSO and after checking ACT logs I can see that these skills rarely trigger. The only mob I haven't fought yet is Varsoon in Palace of Ferzhul, so my conclusions are drawn from 99.99% of TSO heroic content.

These abilities have potential to be quality tanking options for those of us that do like to tank, but outside of a raid setting both of these skills are practically garbage. I tanked a pick up PR raid for friends a couple of weeks ago to see if these skills would trigger more in a raid setting and they surely did. The problem with this is the fact that very few Monks actually raid tank and usually the ones that do are tanking very specific encounters. Even though these abilities are more useful in a raid setting they are still only useful to a select few Monks who actually ever tank anything.

In heroic instances I have only found a few zones/mobs that will trigger these effects. The Protectorate in Ravenscale is about the only mob I can consistently time Inner Focus to trigger off of and one of very few mobs that trigger Meditative Healing. A deteriorated dar assassin in Lower Corridors was the only mob that triggered Meditative Healing in that zone and it wasn't consistent either (sometimes it triggered and other times it didn’t). I think Meditative Healing triggered once in Palace of Ferzhul (not including Varsoon since I still haven't taken pulls on him yet). The only zone it triggered enough times to be useful was in Outer Stronghold, and even then it still didn't trigger enough to be very useful.

Any lower difficulty zone basically will not trigger these abilities at all. I did see Meditative Healing a couple of times in other zones but it was clearly bugged since it triggered off of Mental and Heat damage.

There are a couple of problems with these skills. The first problem is that they only consistently trigger off of melee damage. They inconsistently trigger off of CA damage. In my logs I have been hit by 10-13k CAs that have triggered Meditative Healing, and there are other times the same damage from the same CA didn't trigger a heal.

The next problem ties in with the first problem, which is the fact that they only trigger off of physical damage. There just aren't enough mobs who hit hard enough to trigger these abilities often enough to make them useful.

The biggest problem is the percent damage that needs to be taken in order to trigger these. I know these percentages were higher in beta and they lowered it after getting feedback, but the percentages are still too high.

There are various options to fix Meditative Healing:

Leave the percentage as is but make it trigger off of any damage

Lower the percentage to about 25-30% if it is going to trigger on physical damage only (and make sure it consistently triggers off of CA damage)

Lower the percentage all the way down to 15-20% but make the heal 2% per rank (make it more of a machine gun type heal that heals less but more often)

Pretty much the same ideas can be used to fix Inner Focus, but also finding some way to get rid of the 15 second window would be ideal as well. Taking the limitations and inconsistencies I've already listed and trying to get this skill to trigger in a 15 second window is a difficult task in most cases. Some ideas to fix this are:

Leave the percentage as is but make it trigger off of any damage

Lower the percentage to about 25-30% if it is going to trigger on physical damage only

Lower the percentage all the way down to 15-20% but make it a single stoneskin

Leave it on a 4 minute recast but leave the 2 stoneskins up until they are used or until you recast Inner Focus

Make it a passive spell that procs. Something like "When caster takes x amount of damage (of any kind) this spell has a y% chance to absorb the next attack". Anything along these lines that removes the 15 second window would benefit this AA immensely.

If anyone else has other suggestions for these abilities feel free to post because any way you look at it both of these abilities are underwhelming in their current state. Usually our concerns and suggestions seem to fall on deaf ears, but at least lately it seems like they have been listening at least a little bit.

One. Pretty sure my font is bigger than yours, but definitely making sure the font in this post is to your liking.

Two. I already addressed that these are really only viable in a raid setting. I also addressed the fact that very few Monks actually Raid Tank, or when they do it is for certain situations only.

Is it really that bad that I suggested changes that would make these viable to everyone? /gasp Most of the TSO tree is absolute garbage. We have a few good tanking choices, some garbage dps choices, some skills that make you laugh and I guess I'll throw in skills that are only really useful on a raid. Silly me for thinking up ideas to make it useful for everyone.

STOP THE VIOLINS! er violence...

These AA's are about as good as our mythical: everyone's is better, but HEY at least we get SOMETHING, right?

The Warrior endline AA basically gives them a 8 second PEEL ability. Therefore, as of now, my main is my Berserker (now if I can only get my raid leader to agree). Oh did I mention with my mythical I am an AoE GOD??? BAsically 100% auto attack and a 5 hate position additive to Insolence...yeah, it's pretty much Deathmarch without the group help.

Go tank Ykesha's Outer Stronghold as a monk and wet your pants at the swarms of 4 or 5 yellow ^^^'s coming at your healers. Hear their dying screams as you blindly try to tab target them all. Then hit your FD button because -WOOPS- nobody is left alive and Tsunami is running out....fun times.

Wow that was off subject...

I'll agree that meditative healing could use a change. As its almost never useful. I would suggest making it proc on any 15-20% or greater hit and only heal for 5% health. This would make it less powerful, but it would actually go off occasionally.

Inner focus on the other hand I think shouldnt be changed at all. It only gives you a couple procs so you dont want it wasting them on small hits. I've found it very useful for intercepting as it absorbs both of the hits. Its also very nice to block physical based aoe's if you have a timer.

Inner Focus needs to be able to stoneskin all DMG not just physical. Also for the pvpers out there the dmg for the temp to work needs to be lowered. There is maybe only 2-3 classes that can hit for 40% of someone's health.

As far as meditative healing I agree with the Op to an extent. The heal that we get now is weak in comparison to the dmg you recieve. Again from a pvp stand point the % of dmg should be lowered. I know that it is for raid tanking, but honestly if a raid is using a Monk as the primary Off-tank then something is def wrong with the Crusaders in that guild. Brawlers as we can all agree pretty much got screwed as a whole with the new xpac. However, bruisers got the better end of the deal than us. I mean they can put AA into a passive mit buf much like our Mythical, this is old news of course, I just wanted to remind the devs to plz fix monks.
