After running around in the guild hall and doing several things the game suddenly crashed. Ok, never mind, i thought and restarted the client. But as soon as i had logged into the game and the character appeared in the guild hall again, the game froze for a second or two and the client crashed again with the generic windows error dialog ("the system has detected and error" and so on).

This happened

with any character

with default and profit UI

after installing the recent graphics card driver

after reinstalling the EQ2 UI subdirectory

with any graphic setting I was willing to try

with and without multicore support

After trying for about two hours I discovered a file called "alertlog.txt" (or similar) in the EQ2 directory where i found hint that a parsing error occured in a file called "eq2_recipe_filter.vdl" (or .vdx or similar; don't have access to my EQ2 computer currently).

Deleting that file solved the problem finally.

Just wanted to post it to help other people having that problem.

Edit: I have a german client. Just for the case it's a localization specific problem.
