I have a monk at lvl 42 currently, and started this character to basically just kill names in easy places like KC and the like. I wont group or raid much with him other then to get a few required and much needed items. So, my only concern is how well the character performs killing names efficiently in easier dungeons. Let me also add in that I realize that there are a lot better suited classes for what I want to do, but I am looking for something fresh. I have done the Illusionist/necro/coercer thing to death, and wanted to try something new.I am looking for feed back as far as what might be the better option. Staying as a monk, or betraying to bruiser? keeping in mind I only care about how they perform solo named killing. would anyone have some advice one way or the other? As it stand now from the forums posts I have gone over and the players I have talked to on my server, it seems that a bruiser would have a slight advantage. and if it is a small difference I would prefer to just stick with the monk.while I am on the subject, is there going to be a better AA set up for specifically what I want to accomplish. any insight on that always helps. Thanks in advance for any information provided.

I will post over at the Monk forums and see what they have to say as well.

IE.. parry/deflection/defense etc.... I would definately go down STR line for chi, as using that on a named mob will make things a lot better..

as far as the rest... i would try to get as many CA's from aa line as you can get, IE, go down 2 2nd ine in INT, WIS, AGI, etc... to get the attacks there, and then try to get the Deflection and Parry increases (3rd down i believe) in each line... if you can... but STR line and INT line for the crit strike etc... as for bruiser tree, if you choose that route, i would put 5 into increasing your heal, as you will probably need that soloing, and go down drag line for the boost in DPS to lots of your strikes, which would open up your 5 points into recast on FD, which will come in handy if you have to train lots to get there... I wouldnt necesarily spend all points in Drag, as you dont really need drag... but boosting your knockout combo and your attacks would be nice for that extra dps you will need...

as for shadow line, abosrb physical damage and probably increase to either or both of your off and def stances, depending on what level and type of mobs you are killing... if you get enough increases to defensive skills in other aa lines, i would try rolling the mobs in offensive to maximize your DPS... and use your heal and heal pots alot...

3rd line go for the deflection boosts and if you get max aa, go for the chain mitigation boost and the 12 second deflect all... all great for soloing imo...

good luck deciding... I do think the bruiser gets a bigger heal, because its for self only and cant be used on others... but im not 100 percent sure on that... my master 48 Ignore Agony heal + 5 points in the AA on bruiser tree gives me up to a 52.2% max health heal... couple that with Unglued neck piece from vaults if your going to do that at 80, and some heal pots.... with 10k health, thats around 9k worth of heals.... so near double HP at 10k health... couple that with some miracles and blessings... and your set for life

Thank you for the extremely detailed post, much appreciated. You have given me a lot to look at and consider. And thanks for the tidbit on fighting stance. I wasn't sure where to start on that matter, but what you said made a lot of sense. I am still torn as far as if it's worth taking the time to betray to a bruiser. I am starting to lean towards betraying however. I want to get it out of the way before I start pre buying my masters and adept 3s for 70+, and with these exp changes 40 is just a skip away from 70 now of days lol. anyways thanks again.

With MC gear and adept III's you will be able to solo the chamber of immortality in ROV at level 44, getting two masters each 18 hours when the lockout expires.

With a bruiser it is fun to solo nameds and RE I did for quite awhile when I was in my 40's. Not sure about a monk but would assume would be pretty much the same. Unload all your ca's then fear or stun the mob while they refresh.

Have found soloing nameds very enjoyable as a bruiser and hope you do the same. A lot of different tactics to try and figure out.

Bruiser is absolutely the better choice in named soloing, though you won't truly see the benefits until higher levels. We have excellent survivability, getting abilities like close mind in our 50's. Our self cure is arcane/trauma, which 90% of stuns/stifle/mez's are strauma or arcane, so when training from named to named we have 2 awesome abilities that will allow us to "Break Out" of most control effects so we can Feign Death safely.

The real beauty comes at level 65, when we get Knockout Combination. It's a big chunk of extra damage, plus a stun, on every CA. So hitting Chi and knockout, basicly allows you to spam all your buttons, pushing out insane amounts of damage over 20 seconds. This will give you a huge advantage in killing namers.

Another advantage bruiser have for soloing hard named is our mez.

On a hard named I typically hit chi + Ko combo and spam as much as possible while chi is up.

Once Chi is down, I click off the dot portion of blaze kick and use a macro i have set up to cast our mez that also turns off auto attack so I dont break mez.

This allows me 10 or more seconds to let CA refresh for another round of burst dps, use my heal and not hurt my dps etc.

It can make the differnce sometimes in a long fight, by using mez like this I have actually used my heal twice in long solo fights.

Thanks for the responses guys. I went ahead and made the switch last night. And let me just say I prefer the old betray quest of "go kill 500 of this, and 4 names" then all of these dumb sabotage quests. I am at about lvl 48 now and relearning my character in everfrost.
