I'm a returning player to EQ2. When I did play, I never really accomplished much, so it's still practically a brand new game to me. I want to play on a PvP server because PvP is what I'm into, but I don't really know much about the classes. My understanding in reading the forums is that no matter what class I choose, I'll pretty much be playing by myself to level 80, which is what turned me off in the past, but I'm hoping I can stick it out this time.

My main interest is in being a healer class, and the two classes that stand out to me the most are the templar and the warden, because they both seem like the closest thing to primary healer classes. Small group (duo) PvP is what I'm most interested in, so my question is how do these two compare in terms of PvP viability?

The bard classes also seem pretty appealing, but I've read a lot of negative things about troubadors. How viable are bard classes for small group and solo PvP?

From what I read, the other scout (swash/assassin/brigand/ranger) classes seem to be extremely populated, so it may be harder to find people to play with even at the max level. I don't want to play something that won't be needed, either for PvP or raiding.

Pretty much whatever I can do that will benefit my partner/group the most is what I want to play. I realize that's really subjective, but if there are a ton of DPS classes out there, I'd want to be a support class, if that makes sense. I'm pretty open-minded, so any thoughts on any class that you think is extremely fun, please chime in.

tl;dr: halp wat do i paly pls??

In my opinion, pick your class based on: -

1). What you like and what type of role play appeals to you. DPS (scouts), Tanks (Fighters) etc

You seem to like certain types but are unsure which to pcik specifically so move on to (2).

2). How you are intedning to play? As solo, as a small grp (2-3 player) or as a solid group constantly.

Firstly, all classes are acapable solo, although some do better than others.

Secondly, more time or more friends you have who have invested time (and luck) the faster things will happen for you. So make friends! and join a guild!

As a solo, you have to be self sufficient, therefore most people pick scouts (predator/rogues in particular) because they can do most thing but nothing really well except damage. Bards are utility scouts who fair better in a small grp/grp scenario.

In small grp/grp playstyle, you get a little more freedom and can focus on a specific trait and essentially be very good at that. for example a guardian makes an awesome tank but they are rather slow and troublesmoe to level solo, especially on a PvP server - which is PvE in hard mode.

If you're not in a static group or know some people in real life or have a stable guild, then your first toon imo should be self sufficient. That doesn't automatically mean a scout, but if you choose say a guardian, accept there are going to be some things you just don't do well (and other's you do great).

Do lots of tradeskills as well to help with cash.

Here is a link from this forum for more info > http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...topic_id=437736

By the way, go to nagafen, venekor is very low population.

The bards are ok in pvp but require a certain level of skill to be sucessful.

The only classes you should really stay away from would, IMHO, be the summoners (necro and conjy). They are horribly broken in pvp past t5. Defilers might be a bad class for soloing and starting out with too.

and as far as grouping below t8. Its there. See broadcasts in level chats about pvp groups daily in the various lower tiers.

As far as templar goes. You are gonna be frustrated with the lack of stopping power and low dps combination. you wont kill people very often in the lower levels, otoh, you can live through some amazing stuff.

How viable are bard classes for small group and solo PvP? bards are classes always wanted for groups/raids, and can solo pretty well. troubs get a charm and a mezz and tend to kite, while dirges debuff and melee.

From what I read, the other scout (swash/assassin/brigand/ranger) classes seem to be extremely populated, so it may be harder to find people to play with even at the max level.
I have a Fury, and I've hardly ever been without a group since I started - even in the lowest tiers.

I've had a few PvP fights against wardens and they're tough to take down, excellent healers

My $.02...Druids (Fury and Warden) are extremely versatile. IMO a great first class to play on pvp server. Excellent run speed, stopping power, decent dps, great healing, and portals. They are very common too, so it sounds like that may be a factor for you. As common as they are, its very uncommon for a druid to not find a group.Templars are not as versatile, but certainly less common. As mentioned, in early tiers they have little to no stopping power, which can be frustrating in pvp. It takes a lot of firepower to bring down a templar; they wear plate armor and have outstanding heals. Templars are pretty much always sought by groups. Slow solo'ers. You've read misinformation about Troubadors. They are one of the best pvp classes, including solo. Bards have awesome control effects which make them fun to play. Always sought by groups. I agree with the above poster that Bards take a bit more skill to master. Usually fights last a while so you have to meter your power.
