Ok, so I am not truely a newb but I am starting to feel like one. I have played my necro in groups normally for years now never really cared about my exact DPS. However, now I am raiding more, and seeing me in ACT really depresses me so I want to squeeze out all I can. So if someone could help me that would be great.

Raiding DPS

1) Do I use mage or scout pet? AA Spec for which one?

2) My casting order is Rot, Pan, Coil, lifetap, bats (rinse repeat) Dumbfires on longer fights

I am getting anywhere between 1900 and 2400 DPS, thanks in advance.

So if someone could help me that would be great.

Raiding DPS

1) Do I use mage or scout pet? AA Spec for which one?Scout is better for burst damage but Mage will out perform it in a long fights (30 seconds or longer). Personally I don't like having to click the extra buttons for the Scout pet in groups either so I just always use the Mage pet.

Strong Mage Spec:SummonerWIS 4/4/4/8INT 8/4/4/8 (as you get closer to the soft Int cap with gear you can move the extra 4 points around)STR 4/4/4/8

NecroBloodPactWarlock Pet 5 pointsUndead Horde 2 pointsLifeburn(5 points in Gluttony this buff adds quite a bit of DPS to your pet)

ShadowsGeneral: Health and Pet of the Gods 5 points (total power not really important)Mage: Strike of the Mage and Enchance Master Strike 5 Ponts, Bewilderment 1 pointSummoner: Minions Critical Strike 5 points, Pet Weapon Mastery 1 point(costs 5), Minion's MarkNecromancer: Minions Pact 5 points, Archlich's Lifetap 5 points, Both Endlines 4 pointsEverything else is to taste in Shadows. Hearts, FD, Cure Enhancment, ect... all pretty useful stuff

2) My casting order is Rot, Pan, Coil, lifetap, bats (rinse repeat) Dumbfires on longer fightsThis is a rough one. Your casting order is a but rigid. On a raid you want to be doing a lot more than this.Morality Mark should always come first.Macro /pet attack to one of you damage spells (I use Soul Rot)Alternate to rot every time it's up pretty much (some exceptions)Always get your Dumbfires out but cast them after you've got some DoTs tickingUse the stupid Dagger tooBasically you want to get every ounce of possible damage ticking and out at all times and keep it out while running through a casting chain. If you never stop casting (que'd casting), you are doing it right. At no point should you be waiting on a cooldown.Get familiar with quick a long cast spells. Soul Rot will refresh really fast but you get gaps if you que it every other spell so you mix one long cast and one quick cast together to fill the gap completely. An example of what I mean is this:Open with Soul Rot then cast Drain Life and Morality Mark then que Soul Rot again. Then hit Bloodcoil and Dooming Darkness que soul rot again. Imps, Dagger, Soul Rot, Pandemic, Bloodcoil, Soul Rot, Vampire Bats, Soul Rot. Drain Life, Bloodcoil, Soul rot, Stench, Dooming Darkness, Soul Rot... Basically keep all your spells greyed out as much as possible but time it so every qued spell starts casting the moment the previous spell has finished.

And when the Troubador casts PoTM(make sure they are telling you) Start spamming all your fastest casting hostile spells and nothing else until PoTM wears off. Soul Rot, Dispel, Morality Mark (click it off and on and repeat), Dooming Darkness, Dagger, Bloodcoil, Just keep them all flying at the mob. This will drastically increase your DPS. If you find yourself greyed out toss in a Drain life then repeat the cycle again until PoTM is down then go back to a normal casting chain. Any Hostile spell will make PoTM proc. You want it to proc as much as possible.

I am getting anywhere between 1900 and 2400 DPS, thanks in advance. Practice this and you'll never drop below 3k again. If you don't have enough for the Shadows AA's just keep pushing them out. Focus on a mix of spell crits and spell damage gear. Get your hands on a Bloodthirsty Choker ASAP. Get the Symbol from the old Veksar ASAP. You want your Total Spell Damage mod to be about 50% of your Drain Life base damage. That will make pretty much all your main DPS spells maxed out. Everything else spell crits the more the better. Health is more valuable to you than Power.Use +4 Crit potions and primary weapon +Crit ScrollsUse your Lifeburn and make sure you call it out so people can prepair to heal you. Get the Troubador to hit you with jester's cap right when you start burning and it will shave a good chunk off the recast. And don't use Lifeburn while PoTM is up you get more DPS from spamming PoTM procs than Lifeburn.Use your Undead Horde the second Lifeburn goes off so the Jester's Cap works on it too. It's a crapton of DPS.Buff your HP's before you lifeburn. Use Unstoppable soul on yourself. Make sure Morality Mark is up. If you have a mystic in the raid ask for a Bolster. Work out when you want to burn with the Troubador before hand they have to work with cooldowns and immunity so you can't just spring it on them...

Basically Necro is the most complicated DPS class imaginable... lol

Good advice. The only time I drop below 3K nowadays on a given fight is

a) the fight is very short so my DOTs dont have time to build

b) I don't have a troubador in my group

c) the magic/wis debuffers haven't debuffed the mob as they should

d) I went afk during the fight to refill my coffee cup

e) I am assigned to lever clicking and shiny harvesting duty

f) the healer assigned to my group didn't see my "Lifeburn in 5 secs! Healer stand by!" message.

With the AA spec for mage pet and my mythical epic I generally see 3.5K to 4K without working too hard. I could do better but I am a bit weak on the +dmg gear (only +350 and I should be twice that). My unbuffed crit is about 45%. With a troub in the group I break 50% no problem. So, how your group is set up in the raid is important, too, as is your gear.
