Well...if your soloing you need your defence up and running too. But pure DPS should be STR Line with Chi, Wis Line, Int for Crits. Go light on all the defensive stuff and heavy on the hits. But just hope you don't get hit cause you will go down like a box of rocks.

As a side note, I think that groups dont want us as a DPS player, they want us for outr versatility. Useing defensive stance combined with Shake Off really helps the tank alot. So, if we go light on the defensive stuff, we lose that ability to really help or off tank cause with pure dps, we wont be able to take a hit.

Yawn, Pnaxx man up or go role a class that doesn’t involve getting hit, hitting things or leaving Freeport. This has got to be the weakest bunch of p***y talk I’ve heard in a while.

Firstly Iaawintown you need to pick up Chi at the end of your Str line. This has become a must now the “no weapon” requirement has been lifted.

Most people will use a combination of the AGi line, the Wiz line and Int line. So far I’ve trialed 5 different builds and have settled on what I think is a solid combination of defence and dps. My play style doesn’t lend itself to switching between a dps build and a defensive build. I’ve gone with an always build which seems to be balanced so far.

My Build

Str 4,4,8,7,2

AGI 4,4,8 (I believe the increase reuse speed in this is a must)

Wiz 4,4,4 (A lot of the new instances are multi mob encounters and as much as Crane flock is nice, crane twirl is more than enough to help hold imo)

Int 4,4,8 ( unless you’ve been able to max your crit with raid gear, dropping the crit is too big a dps lose to wear)

I’ve cannibalized the Bruiser line quite a lot to get early hits in the shadow tree which I think gives more bang for your buck.

I have never been brought into a group for my versatility. Bruisers are the best heroic tanks in the game and only being there to support plate tanks is a joke. There are Bruisers who don’t like to tank and are dps minded only that can hold a mob for a bit if the MT goes down. But to paint a Bruiser as a class this way Quote: (But just hope you don't get hit cause you will go down like a box of rocks) and (So, if we go light on the defensive stuff, we lose that ability to really help or off tank cause with pure dps, we wont be able to take a hit) is just limp.

So far I’ve tanked maybe 10 of the new zones including Miragul’s Phylactery, Mistmoore, Guk and Befallen all with 1 healer only.

Most of them I’ve found disappointingly easy.

Sorry if you feel I’m being harsh Pnaxx but I’m sick of people implying that somehow a Bruiser is less able than other tanking classes when I’ve never had that experience. Yes when it comes to epics we have a disadvantage against plate wearers, but with the changes in this expansion even that is diminishing.

Just remember

Bruiser is the new BLACK

Greavous, phat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life.

With that being said, I NEVER said we can't tank. Please READ before you yawn.

I said DON'T neglect the defensive stuff.......I then pointed out 2 reasons why.

1. You will go down like a box of rocks. You will...thats why YOU dodn't do that yourself.

2. If we off tank, the Shake Off in defensive stance is a great way to contribute as oppossed to just thinking we will end up as a tier one dps machine otherwise.

Now, please return to your regularly scheduled program.

>>>>>Edit....BTW, I think your full of chit too in regards to tanking all these zones with ONE healer and with ease. Please! Unless of course you are with and uber l33t group raid equipt. Otherwise....Phat Chance.

YAWN......

Greavous, look mate, I am always open to learning. I look and I listen. If someone has something to say, then great. Fact is, zones like RE2, Guk ect are very very tough zones. Most people understand that. I actually spend most of my life working and raising a houshold of boys with my wife....so raiding is tough to fit in. Oh, but if I would just whining more......

Your just a joke brother. If you have something constuructive to say, say it, but please lay off the CONSTANT macho talk. I have learned thorught my life the macho talkers are the biggest pu**ies. If I were a betting man, I would have to put you in that catagory.

I play this just for fun and try to learn as much as I can. I have been in RE2 with a fully fabled guard who was getting owned at times because the rest of us were only legendary equipt. I don't mind that these zones are hard...I like it...and I am not whining other classes can do it better. It makes no difference to me at all. I do my best when I am tanking and generally do a great job at it. But others can do it better. My self esteem isn't wrapped into this like your is. Please, get a life and step away form the computer and get out of your parents basement.....before its too late!!!!!

Please remember that this game comes before everything else in life!!! Significant other. Work. Health. Friends. Absolutely anything that is of value takes second place to this game!!!! It isn't about fun! This is about being some alternate being that is totally awesome yet totally opposite of what a person really is in life. Its all about living vicariously through another person(s) invention in a virtual world that doesn't even exsist.

LOL!!! Hope that you bruisers out there (and anyone else) don't take this game that serious.

Peace!

I had a 4,4,8,8,2 strgth, 4,4,8 agil, and 4,4,8,8,2 intel in my mirror that I have been running. So far I am pleased and once I can get more crit gear I will set my bruiser up on a wis, strgth, and agil set up. For now I just don't want to loose any crits since I am soloing mostly and this set up is doing fine. I also like the parry that comes with the intel line as well.

I haven't had any time to really get involved in an tso instance yet but I am sure that experience will change my mind.

Yeah the parry lose for me was the biggest hit but funnily enough I really haven’t seen a difference. Even my riposte seems around the same as it was when I had the Int parry maxed. Not sure why and it doesn’t make a lot of sense but there you go.

I think your right Aull, you will find it tough tanking some tso instances without some extra AE hate going on. Some zones you just have to chain pull multi mob encounters and the dps you have to create to stay ahead of the repops behind means worrying about a single mob being on the healer or some mad wizzy just cant be in the formula. But as I suggested earlier I’ve found all I’ve needed is the 4 in crane twirl to give enough of an edge.

I think the single biggest improvement I made as a tank is to understand my CA’s well. Know when to use them and when not to. The real secret to heroic Brawler tanking is the use of our stuns and interrupts. I’m a chain puller so in a run through CoA ill be pulling 4 mobs at a time and when one is down I’ll be getting the next one. That way we get the most out of our ae’s and buffs like Crane Twirl. When fighting in tougher zones like Guk, throwing out a CA like Crane sweep as soon as the mobs are all on you is a must to allow the healer to get a good amount of inbound heals on you. Learn the CA’s that have a stun component and don’t use them unless you’re getting rocked or unless the mobs are cake. In Guk you get a combo of (1x^^^ + 1x ^^) or (4 x ^^). There are a few other variables but that is the usual build. If your fighting the ^^^ and ^^ combo just burn the ^^ as fast as possible and then the ^^^. Remember if you use Crane Sweep to start you get 2 or 3 free hits before they climb into you and if on hit 3 or 4 u use another stun, all you have hitting you is the ^^^ for the first 6 seconds of the fight. Don’t use Resistant spirit unless it’s a named or your getting hit bad. I’d rather have it when I need it than wasting it on trash. If it’s a caster mob then and only then use Stone deaf and remember that your group taunt is also a interrupt. Use it as much as u can as another period of damage free melee.

I don’t have a casting order. I use what I need at the time. Some times it’s similar most fights and sometimes it’s totally different every fight.

I suppose what I’m saying is

DON’T BLOW YOUR LOAD EARLY

I do more damage when I’m standing up.

Also if your really getting dealt to and your self heal is down, throw Rescue up and follow it with a stun and then Rock Skin. Wait till the healers caught you up or if somehow someone’s pulled it off you ,drop it and hit with another stun. This is a ah sh*t moment and not the norm but it works well when the healer needs to catch up.

Don’t use your heal unless you need to. Without the rest of them your f**k*d but its your job to set the tone and the expectation. Don’t be shy to expect the best play from those around you. And don’t be slow to praise when a average player does well. I usually wait for around 30 seconds to get a full group and I play at dead time. Most my groups are 80% different people. I have been playing far too long to suffer fools in group but a player who truly wants to be good, regardless of how bad they play I will help as much as I can.

The biggest lesson I’ve learnt in this game is

The more I learn the more I understand how little I know

Great suggestions on setup guys, im fairly new to my bruiser (although hes 75 / 120) now, but i grinded him up pretty fast from 30's to where i am.... and have been trying different stuff...

I play on naggy, so PVP is an important consideration in my AA line, though i do eventually want to get one for PVP and one for everything else... mainly because for PVP i want the biggest burst DPS i can possibly have, i love Mantis Leap for it because it lets me get to those runners that seem to want to fight and run when they start to lose, so i save that for the end when i know they will run cuz they are getting pwned in the face by me (orange lvl 80 brigs are the biggest of these, who somehow think because im green im an easy no brainer target, and when i start to rock them, they get panicky cuz they didnt pop their temps or prepare for the fight that i put out)

In PVP, i mostly solo or small group, so the WIS line seems a bit of a waste, and i love the mantis leap for mages where my close mind is down, or for those rangers with the enless snares....

I will definately try the suggested setup and see what happens, i dont really use Mantis for the crit portion of it, though that really does come in great handy when you pull multiple mobs and just hit mantis + multi attack AOE and watch the numbers fly through the roof as you crit 32 attacks all at once

the Shadow tree looks pretty sexy as far as the chain mitigation, damage absorption and 2 separate increases to deflection are available....

I want my toon to be a pvp monster and just destroy scouts without a second thought, and tanking, bleh, i had a 70 zerker pretty geared out in VOX as my first toon, tanking is ok, but im not that fond of it... people always seem to blame the tank and put you in a list unfairly due to some aggro [Removed for Content] that doesnt want to control their burst insane dps when you body pull, then they pull aggro, start dying, so healer puts massive heals on them, and it seems as if you cant control the mobs, when in reality its just the fact they cant control dps before you have even started controlling the mob.... I like the idea of OFF tank / DPS, as these toons seem to put out a heafty amount of damage, and can help the tank keep aggro and avoid blows.... reactive taunt to detaunt line on bruiser tree seems to work well for that too... and in the case of a bad pull on the tanks part, a quick switch to def and a rescue, will help keep the MT alive and the fight goin strong...

So you get this "INstance group looking for Plate tank" and people automatically assume brawlers cant tank an instance etc... The truth be told, ive seen (healed, and DPS'd with) brawlers that have been better than plate tanks and ive also seen brawlers that claim they are "uber geared" and i couldnt keep them alive cuz they just couldnt take a hit and / or couldnt tank....

I think the fact remains that it takes more skill to tank on a brawler then it does on a plate tank, as the shield and mitigation arent there, so like said above, you have to time your knockdowns and stuns etc, when your taking hits and time your temps and cures right so that you maximize your own DPS and tanking abilities..

It takes quite a bit of skill to tank well, and there arent many people who can really tank well, add that to the above that there are hardly any brawler tanks out there and you get your misconception that brawlers suck at tanking...

I like to think of me as a pretty good tank, Khonann on VOX was my first toon ever on EQ2, zerker, that i did pretty much nothing but tank instances on for a living till i moved to Naggy to become a DPS / Healer class...

I have an old End game Zerker, a new end game bruiser, an 80 epic Mystic, 80 Epic Swashy, and my 80 Mythical Illy, so i like to try out every class in each of their settings and see how they they work.... Bruiser i must say is one of the most fun so far for PVP... I will try tanking eventually on those instances like COA that i know so well from bringing up all my other toons... but will wait till i have near full set of PVP armor before trying out any hard core TSO zones.....

I agree that alot of players don't know how to play their given class as well as they could. For instance, I know most people I talk to never really go to forums like these to improve their play. I also know I have grouped with people who have very low spells for some freakin reason.

BUT

I will say that the Bruiser is a pretty tough class to master if one wants to be the "Best Heroic Tank". Case in point. I am somewhere in skill level between you all who can tank anything and those who are average. I would say I prolly know my class better than 80% of the Bruisers. However, I can't do what several of you can. Maybe someday it will happen. But if I did what Brannigan does, and chain pulled heroics in CoA, I wouldn't last too long. My health would drop very very fast. I can blow through CoA, but I can't count on being able to handle 3 to 4 ^^^ on me at once. My experience has been I die at that point.

So, if some of you have alot of success, than share your tactics. Brannagin did the other day which was helpful. I would like to see what others are doing to make you "The Best Heroic" tank in the game.

Divide and Conq, Drag, Rescue. I'm not convinced that getting control hate would provide enough benefit to be worth spending 6 more points in this tree. If I found myself with hate problems I might entertain it, but my build is more well rounded I think and less one dimensional.

I understand that bruisers are fighters and therefore should be tanking. I understand that a comparably equipped, played, and buffed scout should out damage a bruiser. But even given all that, in my relatively casual groups I'm often called upon to dps. If I've been brought along specifically to dps for whatever reason then I should do my best to deliver the best dps I can. In fact, the people I play with frequently want me to dps (I often parse pretty high in our raid setups and above many dps toons). Sure, this isn't the kind of uber groupings some of the people posting here expect but they're there anyway.

Therefore, there is a legitimite reason for a dps setup. Sure, I don't want to JUST have a dps setup. That's what AA mirrors are for and even my dps setup will have things besides pure dps (such as AA points into better intercede).

Anyway, it's reasonable to ask for a good dps AA setup and I don't think there's need to belittle such a request. It is probably not reasonable to ONLY have a dps setup, but there are times when your primary job is to dps.

For example, the quote line talks about the Strength line. They put x4 pts in the Str increase, x4 pts into the combat art, x8 pts into the double attack, x8 pts in the deflection, and the x2 points that are neccessary to buy the final rank ability in an archetype (KoS expansion) AA tree.
