Hello me and my GF are having fun playing a Coercer and Necro Duo but we are new to pet classes so I have a few questions that I hope someone can answer.

1. How or what is the command to make your pet charmed or conjured only use ranged attacks ?

2. If I charm a Healer mob can I make it or will it cast heals on us by itself ?

As it is right now Her (Necro) pet tanks while she does some DPS and I (Coercer) CC adds etc and melee for DPS and I would like to add some more DPS or healing from a Charmed mage or healer mob.

I have read that if I were to switch to a casting AA spec I may be able to get a bit more DPS but I really like the Str/Melee line : )

Anyone know how or if it is able to be done ?

Thanks

1. The command it /pet ranged

2. Sadly, there is no way to force a charmed mob or any particular pet to do certain things (although I know a necro can force their tank pet to taunt, that's about it though). So whether or not it heals anyone will be purely on a whim of the AI.

A healer pet will never heal you or a group member. It will however heal itself but then only if it's hp drops to below 50% or less.

Ok thanks for the /command.

So the best way to get DPS out of a charmed pet is to find a Mage mob.

Anyone find the Str line viable in the later levels ? I like the idea of a Melee mage : )

I don't know about charmed pets (haven't bothered to try) but in addition to the /pet ranged command, there is a /pet melee command, and a "pet options" menu. You access this by right-clicking on the pet itself, and there should be a pet options window which can dictate the /pet ranged or /pet melee behavior. For the necro pet at least (as well as your god pets, so that they'll PERMANENTLY hide), and I can see the same mechanic working for charmed pets, though it's possible it wouldn't.

Good luck.

If you have a charmed pet or possessed essence then you will still have the same pet window that summoners have with all the same commands. If the charmed or possessed mob is a mage or priest then it will cast damage spells and self heal (priests) at ranged. Even some shadowknight type mobs will cast a ranged spell from time to time or summon the temp pet they have while at ranged.

The normal "pet window" of course is always the same (heck even templars get that for their short-duration hammer pet), but I was referring to the window that comes up when you right-click a summoner pet and specifically choose the "Pet Options" option in that menu, which allows you to set the hide/not hidden for god pets, and the melee/ranged for "normal" pets.

A side note:

You can name your Possessed pet but not your Charmed *sniffle*

You can even name dumbfires (i.e. Puppetmaster) but only if you use a macro to fire it and have /petname [name] in the commands.

My possessed pet is "Moppet", my dumbfire Puppetmaster are "Mini". My Cazic pet is "Borden". Those are the only pets I ever bother with, usually.
