1. What's the difference between a Brigand and an Assassin? Is it just Assassins have more positional/stealth attacks or are there other things like different proficiencies etc.

2. What's the deal with poisons? Are they difficult/expensive to keep up with? Are poisons more for higher end content/raiding? The only reason I ask is because I played a rogue in WoW and from the looks of things obtaining poisons in EQ isn't just going to a special NPC and buying really cheap ingredients and combining them together, you have to actually purchase poisons from other players via the broker or make them your own with the alchemy skill, right? Just going from my previous experience with the game anything dealing with a broker is expensive and not new player friendly

3. When do you start to look more...rogue-ish? I tried out a brigand for a little bit and got some new armor pieces from quests but I ended up looking more like an upstanding knight than a lowdown dirty rotten scoundrel. I know brigs can wear up to chain mail but the armor I got was like bleach white. I was like "did I roll a Brigand or a Paladin? :S". Do I need to stick more to leather type armor if I want to look more like a rogue/thief? Are there any apparent penalties for using leather as opposed to chainmail (besides the obvious armor difference)?

Thanks for taking the time to read my insanely noobish questions

Both are scouts but Assassins are Predator while Brigands are Rogues.

Assassins are T1 DPS and what they can do best is DPS DPS and more DPS. They have ALOT of positional and stealth attacks, their combat arts do a lot of damag and most of their overall damage comes from their combat arts. Their big hit combat arts have long re-use timers ranging from 1-5 minuts.

Brigands are T2 DPS and what they can do best is cripple the targets defense while also dealing decent damage. A brigand will never outparse an assassin when it comes to pure dmg, but the brigands debuffs makes it equal. With our debuffs we do help the whole grp. We also have positional attacks and only 1 stealthed attack. Alot of our damage comes from our auto attacks. Our combat arts dont deal nearly as much damage as the assassins ones but ours are on a much shorter re-use timer.

2.

Theres different poisons out there. They have different colors and you can have one up from each color. Poisons are not 100 % necessary but i do use them the whole time because they can help alot. I use all 3 colors. We brigands can enhance a special poison that deals damage and heals us, i would never turn it off as it saved me plenty times. My second poison is an defense debuffer, it help us hitting throu the targets defense. My third poison is a massive snare that saves me when something goes wrong. There are more kind of poisons out there who do lots of different things. Since theres 2 versions of poisons out there, one being cheap but also weaker and one more expensive but much better. So you could just use the weaker ones but still get a big benefit from them. But i wouldnt call the better ones too expensive.

3.

YES, theres 4 different kind of armor sets out there. Cloth, leather, chain and plate. And you are right, you should use chain instead of leather because it gives more mitigation. So the enemies will hit you for less damage. There were moments in this game where i have used a leather piece instead of chain because the benefit from it was much greater than the current chain piece i had. For example i do play on a pvp server and i used a leather shoulder piece because it had a very dangerous proc on it. For my current situation it was better than the current chain piece i had even tho i lost some mitigation. I replaced that leather piece when i found a chain piece which had MASSIVELY better stats but theres still items out there that i would consider using instead of certain chain pieces and as long as its just a piece or two you wont notice a BIG difference. If you happen to find a chain piece that looks like leather or you dislike the overall look of the item theres a second inventory called "appearence". You can equip items there which will overwride the look of your current equipped piece. You do not gain any stats from the appearence inventory tho. I for example have a full set of good looking chain armor in my appearance slot because i use way too many different armor set pieces. Some people would probably look like rainbows if they didnt have the appearence inventory.

I do hope i could help you, if you have any other questions, just let us know or find me on Venekor on the Evil side

One thing to note here, poisons are factored into your dps.

There is indeed 3 types of poisons - damage, debuff, and utility.

For the damage poison, caustic will give you the best overall dps increase. For soloing, vitality breach will help keep you alive while still providing a damage component. Mental breach is great for long fights to help maintain power.

Considering the amount of agro we generate, running Ignorant Bliss is suggested for utility in groups. For soloing, turgur's reduces the attack speed of the mob, fettering reduces run speed. When you reach L52, stupefying poison becomes available and is a stun poison.

For the debuff poison its highly dependant on situation.

If you're grouping with another rogue or predator, the debuff poison does not stack so make sure you are running something different. Gracelessness reduces agility and defensive skills making it easier for melee types to hit the mob. Warding Ebb reduces wisdom which makes it easier for casters to get their debuffs in. Enfeebling reduces strength and offensive melee skills which reduces the outgoing damage of the mobs. Cerebral Ebb reduces intelligence and offensive casting skills which reduces outgoing casting damage of the mobs.

Our achievements increase 2 types of poisons: vitality breach and warding ebb.

As for costs, its all relative in the long run. I'd strongly suggest leveling an alchemist as you go. The costs over time add up pretty quickly if you buy them from the broker. Given the speed at which we can kill mobs, making coin isn't an issue at higher levels.

---

As for the difference between an assassin and a brigand... you're comparing apples to oranges. An assassin is a dps machine - that is their primary role and they do it well. A brigand on the other hand is a defensive debuffing class. Our debuffs allow other classes to do more damage overall.

--

Starting at L20, you get an appearance tab on your inventory window. You can use whatever gear is best for you for dps while looking however you feel.

Poisons up to tier 6 even mastercrafted are usualy sold at fuel price which is actualy very cheap...for t7 and t8 it's quite a bit more costy
