So, I just got tainted heals, and I'm wondering where to go next. Any suggestions would be appreciated. =)

First have a respect mirror made.

Any level 80 crafter with the pattern can make one for you but it's no drop so they have to commission it to you. The main component is "a Smoldering Reflective Shard", you'll find them on the broker cheap.

Place the mirror in your house.

Next step save your tainted heals spec to the mirror as "Solo" and then reset all your AA's and get Rotting Line and Lifeburn. Save this one as "Group" when you switch back. You will swap back and forth between these two for the rest of your Necro's life in EQ.

Necro is worthless to a group while solo spec'd unless they are tanking but you won't be doing that until you have quite a few more AA's =P. Also Necro's can't solo worth a [Removed for Content] while group spec'd. You absolutley have to have both to be able to enjoy all the content.

The next stages go about like this in order:

Soloing Tainted HealsSTA LineWIS LineLifeburn (yes use lifeburn for both you'll find out why later on)Tank Pet on Necro TreeSTR LineFiller AA's left over points Necro Tree

GroupingLifeburnSTR LineINT LineWIS LineMage Pet and Dumbfires(swarm pets) on Necro TreeBloodpact Necro TreeUndead HordeFiller AA STA 5 points into Stamina (if you specd right)

Ignore all the End-Line AA's on the summoner tree they are completely worthless no matter what spec you are using. They sound like they might be useful but they really never are.

And on the Class Tree remember Health is more important than Power and INT is more important than STA, silly I know but it will once again make sense later.

Intelligence is so easily capped, get your stamina anyway you can...to include the character trait page. High hp is a key factor to playing the class.

Group/raid exact spec is: int 4/4/6/8/1 wis 4/4/4/8 str 4/4/4/8 sta 6 5 mage/ 3 scout / 5 dumbfire/ 5 swarms / 2 undead horde, 3 pet heal/ 5 heart/ 5 single heal/ 5 rez/ 5 gluttony/ bloodpact, rotting line completely maxed out and lifeburn

solo spec I would say: sta 8/4/8/8/1 wis 4/4/8/8/1 with remaining points where ever you like 5 tank, and anyway you can spend points to get tainted heals, max rotting line and get lifeburn. The key to solo play isn't worrying about your dps, crits aren't important it's all survival and not pulling aggro. Tainted heals generates alot of hate as is. (character trait tree will not change from high hp/sta build)

Unless of course you are not using spell crit and damage gear in which case you're DPS is gonna be crap anyway. Much better to focus on Int on the way up and adjust for gear as you get to the cap. Always Health before Power and Int before Sta on the way up. Sta is important for Raid DPS endgame for the most part. And until you get your first Lich Int keeps your power pool large enough to make up for it.

Group/raid exact spec is: int 4/4/6/8/1 wis 4/4/4/8 str 4/4/4/8 sta 6 5 mage/ 3 scout / 5 dumbfire/ 5 swarms / 2 undead horde, 3 pet heal/ 5 heart/ 5 single heal/ 5 rez/ 5 gluttony/ bloodpact, rotting line completely maxed out and lifeburn

Once Again End Lines are worthless to you on the summoner tree. And no matter what you should have 8 points in Int.

Groupint 8/4/4/8 wis 4/4/4/8 str 4/4/4/8 sta 5

and if you're healing as a necro you're a wasted raid slot. Put those extra points in the Ooze Pet. The Curse is well worth having the pet for certain encounters.

solo spec I would say: sta 8/4/8/8/1 wis 4/4/8/8/1 with remaining points where ever you like 5 tank, and anyway you can spend points to get tainted heals, max rotting line and get lifeburn. And you absolutley need the Str line to solo group content. Anyone can solo normal solo content. What makes Necro Stand out is the fact that they can solo extremely hard mobs. Tainted heals won't build much hate. (as long as you use the right manipulations) What you have to worry about is timing when you DPS and gear that has hate reduction/stun/stifle effects on it. Alternate between a steady DPS line and Perceptor's Command and do not use dumbfires (dumfires build more hate on us than anything else). I can both solo and tank RoK dungeons and Instances with this spec. Yes I said tank, without having agro issues.

Solosta 4/4/8/8wis 4/4/8/8str 4/4/4/8

Little more functional and a lot more DPS. =)

And please tell me it has spell crits and spell damage on it.

Once Again End Lines are worthless to you on the summoner tree. Why not toggle Blood Pact and just keep your pet alive and DPS at the same time?

and if you're healing as a necro you're a wasted raid slot. Any raider worth a [Removed for Content] knows that thing is worthless.Where prey tell are these other points gonna go? Specd right there really no place to put them that would make a difference. At least the Ooze pet offers a healthy debuff once in a while on hard hitting mobs. Kinda nice to have when you're not grouping with tanks swingin Avatar gear between their leggs.

Those two endlines do absolutley nothing for soloing.

Those 2 end lines have situational uses for soloing.Show me one. I solo green epic mobs without them and orange 3^s and can smash through every ounce of solo content in the game without downtime and have never used any of them. Show me where these can be useful cause I'm just not seeing it. Every endline on the summoner tree is fluff.

They are gimick AA's and not functional. I have better things to do than waste time soloing those instances, like log in alts and clear them in 15-20 mins. The mythical pet is hardly fair to compare here. It is rediculously more powerful than all the other pets. And you're right once you've seen all the content in the game and geared up to that point it seems a waste for you to even play your class at all now doesn't it.

Little more functional and a lot more DPS. =)

You're absolutely right, I must have no idea what I am talking about in regards to dps...thank you so much for schooling me....LOL Perhaps you should play a bit longer and learn the class more, I'm always around to offer DPS advice for those seeking to reach higher end raiding.

No reason to be agry because I figured out how to play the class in a fraction of the time it took others. It's really not that complicated if you enjoy experimenting with it. I've yet to see a mage period who can out DPS me in similar gear and equally buffed or any Necro who can solo the content I manage to solo with relative ease. So maybe a fresh approach may have yielded a more effective solution? Or maybe you can teach me how to be even better? But the attacks aren't really doing anyone much good are they?
