View Full Version : What's the best tier for PvP

I wanted to stick around my current level and do some PvP but it looks like I won't be able to because:

Not many people to fight

Even locked, I still level quickly

So maybe I should unlock and just go with the flow until I'm at a more favourable stage in the game...

Is there a 'golden' PvP tier/level? Where's it all happening? When I get there will I be able to lock and stick around or am I on a one way trip to level 80 whether I like it or not ?

T6 all the way

Most of the classes have balance (Compared to the other tiers). Spend as much time PvPing here as you can.

Yep, and PVP XP slows down significantly at this tier. There has been quite some action at tier 5 too in EF also recently due to the new quests.

T6 the only place you'll find anyone is on SS docks... and then you wont find one of your tier or a group of your tier... you will find 35 grays and 3 of your tier and a few reds trying to all leech fame off someone landign on the carpet with no immunity... dont bother flying anywhere in T5, T6, or T7, its all at the SS docks.... and though people think grays cant do anything, especially if they are 20+ levels below?? Trust me they can... like little ants killing a deer... they will mob you to death, and then the not so low grays, green, blues and some reds will jump in on ya... like cockroaches...

If you go elsewhere in the T5 / T6 / T7 zones you might find one or 2 people an hour... if your lucky... some questers every once in a while... where as you can leave the docks in KP and find people... which is what ive always suggested would rid T8 of the KP dock-a-thons, just dont go there, and people will eventually have to leave to find it elsewhere

Anything other than t8 PVP is worthless IMO. You're not in the "major" leagues until you've maxxed your level and AA's and use all of your abilities and items to their fullest effect. Any pvp below t8 could be considered "minor leagues", intended for more casual players who either don't have the time to get to max level, don't want the challenge, or are happy being the best of the worst.

SOE has no clue what it's doing with pvp, and it shows GREATLY in t8 with OP items and classes. Lower tier fights tend to be longer and more balanced. T8 fights are tend to be over before they're started.

In t8 you're dealing with the biggest twinks of all, people who have spent the greater part of a year getting every item possible to give their char the biggest edge in pvp. Though this may be true of other teirs, the difference between someone in treasured/mastercrafted vs. someone in full VP/mythical isn't even in the same ballpark lower tiers. Lower tiers, gear difference between MC and fable is barely noticeable. This leads to more even fights across the board.

Also in t8, SOE has catered to people who want to open up 100% and kill things in 3 seconds. As shown in the autoattack thread in these same forums, things are just WAY out of wack in t8.

Then we bring in the clickies. The higher level you are, the more clickies and god spells you have available, further dilluting player skill and leaving the game to the hands of a few "I Win" buttons.

Multiple times i've brought this up to guildies. They all agree, but then laugh and tell me i should just roll a brigand so that that pvp would seem balanced to me with nothing needing to change.

Anyone who says tier 8 is either

A) A masochist

B) An OP class who fears nothing

C) Out of their mind.

40-60 range, even though 20 levels and covering 2 tiers, are the best IMO.

I thought it was aim of the game - get max lvl, get max aa, get best gear, use it to kill ppl if u like it. Maybe this is why RoK was about t8, TSO is about t8.... but looks like im mistaken and all fun in game is to lock and kill each other on low tiers and cry about t8 twinks who spent months getting uber gear and now own everybody.

I just wonder if u will stay in t4-6 another year even pvp exp will push u to higher tier. Do u think gap betwenn t8 "twink in your opinion" and fresh locker who finally got to t8 will be smaller? We have new expansion inc tomorrow. Gear in it are so different that makes VP set almost useless so this is fresh chance to all to get new gear and start t8"twinking" togather. But hell why? its better to raid pvp with x4 of greys leechers around. Yep if it is your perfect pvp setup then i shut up cause i think im too old and dont undurstand this game anymore.

From class balance, overall mechanics, and itemization tier 4 - 6 are the best tiers for pvp IMO. Getting to end game is only the aim of the game because this is a PVE game first and foremost about progressing your toon. SOE needs to raise level cap and introduce new zones/gear regularly to keep its PVE crowd interested. When SOE make tier 8 they don't intend to make "the best tier for pvp", it's the least of their concern. They didn't sit in a meeting one day and after brainstorming came to the conclusion "guys we need a new tier where we fix all pvp issues and make it perfect". Their concern is just to give new content to keep customers busy for yet another year. The only arguments I see in favor of T8 is: - more options: more AAs/skills, but not many more skills than T6 tbh. - higher population. The list of T8 issues might be much longer

Thanks for all of your opinions

Reading between the lines I think that up to level 30 goes by so quickly its not worth investing too much in it, so I want to fast forward a bit and am looking forward to my level 30, 40 & 50 somethings which should give me plenty of stuff to do.

cheers

T8 is not the old T2... in T2, you can twink your player to pretty much max gear and spells in a couple of hours... the imballance was far greater in T2, as you were going up against people not only brand new to the game, hitting lvl 10 and smoking them with lvl 1 island gear on, but your going against even experienced players that have no gear and no spells and therefore no chance... in T8, if your running around with ap1's and treasured lvl 40 gear and you dont know your class at all, (the stuff you would see in T2) then its your own fault... you've had 72 levels to get gear, spells, and skills that will allow you to fight..

Now i do agree that there are certain classes that can kill you as fast as the old T2 standards of PVP go... but to truely "twink" your player out at 80 takes a long long long long time, and tons and tons and tons of grinding instances for masters or plat to buy the masters (1000's of plat to fully master) or 1000's of hours of PVP'ng to get a full set of gear... and to be quite honest... the lvl 72 and 77 gear give better resists as a whole then a hodge podge of T8 legendary drops from instances... now if your fighting against someone who has over half masters, the rest adept 3's, all fabled (pvp or VP gear) with adorns and nothing but time on their hands to perfect every aspect of their class so they practice on how to kill quickly, then yes, its going to be a fast fight... but if you get 2 people in MC 72 gear with ad3's fighitng each other (the kind of people you see who just hit 80, or who are casual players) the fights are very much fair.... with the few exceptions to the rules where one class can one shot or kill any class in less then a second no matter what the gear.....

So i would respectfully disagree that T8 is like the old T2, where you have 10 spells total, and the MC gear is the best of what you can get, and you can get to that point in about 2 hours or less if you know how to play the game and have a high level toon to "support your habit".... you cant really compare that to the hours of raiding or PVP'ng each night for months, that it takes to fully "twink" a toon out.... not to mention the 1000's of plat it takes to get masters in T8, vs 10 gold here, 1 plat there to get masters at T2...

So in that respect, i disagree... T8 players that choose to play tons of hours and get geared out deserver their fast kills far more then teh T2 twinks that spend 2 hours getting equivalently and respectively "geared" out to the max for their tier...

Also, T2, any class that has gear can take out ANY class that doesnt have gear... in T8, thats not neccesarily the case... Classes have to pick and chose who your going to 1 v 1... by lvl 72 (the time that pvp becomes green to 80s) if you dont know your special spells and havn't figured out what classes you can and cant kill easily, then its your own fault... at T2, you dont have that problem, anyone can kill anyone very easily if geared right.

Ill give you an example... I play an illusionist... (one of my 80's) I have mythical weapon, 5/7 VP pieces.. some PVP gear, RE2 gear, 14 or so masters and i practice 1 v 1 on different classes... I know that if i see a colored con bruiser... and unless they are just a newb and a half.. i dont bother fighting them.. Why you say? i suck you say? No, i know that if I mez a bruiser, he can cure the mez while mez'd, pop his close mind which renders all my control effects (besides charm) useless for nearly 30 seconds and he can pop his spell absorbtion, which absorbs 3 attacks that would normally take more then 10% of his HP away, and he can pop his sonic fists and his KNockout spell, and will pwn me in less then a second and theres not much i can do accept try to run... except they have 4 knockdown attacks and a root on top of their knockdown proc attack....

So you see, theres not much point in fighting a bruiser... no matter what the level he is to me at 80, colored that is.... for if i cant get a spell off and my big hitters are absorbed and my control effects useless, i will get pummeled to death very quickly...

Now thats not to say i dont fight bruisers at least once, no matter what color they are, because if they suck or their temps are down or they dont know how to play their class, (power level ftl) ill beat them no problem... but its like mom used to say when you told her "It hurts when i stick my finger in the power outlet"... "well son, dont do that again, no?"

In T2, none of this comes into play, because all classes have 3 or so buffs and 4 to 6 attacks at the most and whoever (if both are twinked) gets the shot off first will win, and if one is twinked and the other is newb in island gear... it doesnt make a difference at all who gets the first shot off...

I never got past T2 on Nagafen, but frankly, I couldn't care less about it. Leveling means, for the most part, doing boring PvE stuff.

If I want boring PvE stuff, I can stay on Mistmoore. If I want PvP, then I certainly don't want to do boring PvE stuff just to get high enough to do it.

Thus, from my point of view, T2 is the BEST PvP, because even an unskilled, clueless git can reach level 19 in an afternoon. Now, if only they'd revert PvP XP back out ... & while they're at it, restore the freekin' faction differences, & maybe get rid of the "Exiled" faction entirely .... well, maybe then EQ2 PvP might eventually become worthwhile.

But I'm not going to hold my breath.

The difference between someone with full spells and gear in t8 vs a newcomer not mastered nor fabled is giant compared to the same scenario in t2. + with all of the clickies, godspells, etc... bascically all you're doing is a competition of who's got the better class and spent more time putting gear into him, and who gets the 1st drop. t2 i can get jumped by a yellow twink, still ahve time to react and a good chance at winning. So i must respectfully completely disagree with you.

p.s. in my opinion, t2 is the 2nd to worst tier to pvp in, minus t8. t4-t6 are the golden tiers. I cited t2 in my fist post just to help show how [Removed for Content] t8 is.

The difference being it takes months and months and months of twinking a toon to get all those things in T8, whereas it takes abotu 2 hours from toon creation if your slow, to get fully twinked lvl 14 toon in full MC gear with all ad 3's / masters...

TBH if someone wants instant gratification and easy kills in 2 hours, they are in the wrong game genre...

While i do agree 100% with this post, there is a PvP problem since the inception of t8. The game got too gear based. Too many lucky procs. Autoattack, crit, and double attack all went crazy as well, making fights 3 seconds and a bunch of lucky procs, or OP gear. T8 is still definetly where ALL the best players are, but T8 PvP itself kinda sucks.
