I'm haveing a problem with my laptop. If i'm connected to a wifi access point, eq2 launches and plays fine. If i'm connected to my modem with a ehternet cable the game starts to load and then freezes at "Trying Login Server #1". I never have to do anything but disconnect my ethernet cable and connect to a wifi AP.

Some info on my setup:

Microsoft Vista / Server 2k8 (both 64bit) - These have been both base install's updated with windows update. no other software has been installed at this point and windows firewall is off and the service is disabled.

Asus G2sg laptop

Using Verizon DSL at home, and Comcast Bussiness at work. Same problem school but not sure of the ISP info.

The other interesting thing is that when I boot in to Ubuntu (also 64bit) and lunch EQ2 using wine, all my connection stuff works normally. This lead me to belive that there is a problem with windows as to aposed to a network/hardware problem.

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreicated.

Hi,

I'm not part of the support team but reading the description of your problem I think there is something wrong with the driver of your ethernet card. If I were you I would double check its compatibility with Vista + last stable version ...Another possibility is a disturbing software running in your Windows conf. In this case a clean reinstall could help.

Good luck

If you can then it is a firewall issue, if you can't then try these steps

If add on nic card -

1. open the box, remove the hard wired card if possible.

2. restart the machine, let it clear out the old hardware profile for the card. Check in add/remove programs to see if there are any drivers listed there

3. shutdown, replace card, restart and load the latest drivers.

If motherboard mounted interface

1. start the machine in safe mode with cable detached

2. remove the drivers from add/remove programs if any present

3. remove the device from the Device manager if it is present

4. reboot the machine load new drivers if requested.

In both cases make sure you have the latest supported drivers available for your configuration.

as far as not working at work or school, suspect that you may still have problems after you get your nic functioning, most of these organization lock down their access to prevent this

In addition to the other suggestions, you might want to make sure that you're using the right kind of cable. Some ethernet cables are called 'crossover' cables because they switch the receiving and sending ends of the cable from one side to the other. You'll want to make sure that you're not using a crossover cable.
