I know that sounds funny to ask but...

Just returned to EQ2 and having a blast. Great game. Made a Mystic on a PVE server but wanted a bit more excitement, so I started a rat assassin on a pvp server the other day.

So far, I'm only lv 9, crafting and harvesting mostly, with combat xp turned off.

But... I've been reading the forums quite a bit and was very confused.

Seems that at level 20, every person and their grandmother can see stealth and/or invis using at least totems. AND... here's the most ridiculous part, from what I've read. The tracking classes can TRACK you even if you're stealthed? HUH?

That got me thinking about my strategy. Assassins require stealth more than any other class to be effective. Since everyone and their grandmother on a pvp server is a SCOUT, then what's the point? I mean, almost every class you see is a scout of some sort and can SEE and TRACK you while you're stealthed. HUH?

So... What's the point in the end? Seems a bit silly, and has gotten me thinking about playing a class that's supposed to be sneaky, but really won't be all that sneaky anyway.

It's because this isn't a real pvp game, and thus just had a broken pvp ruleset smashed over the pve system without any fitting. (AKA: pounding a square peg into a round hole).

Makes no difference whether other classes can see stealth or not -- you need to use stealth to utlize your attacks. Also it should be pointed out that in pvp, nobody is perfect. People run without totems and track up. Also the ability to see stealthed toons at a distance is limited. Hence, while stealth is gimped it is not useless.

(( one decision i made long ago that has garnered me relative success is to (almost always) Never attack a person who can see you coming.

Check their buffs under their name, look for the see-stealth icon. (or if they are a rogue, see if they are IN stealth, that will also allow them to see stealth), or if they are a shaman, make sure they arent in Tiger-mode, that also allows see-stealth.

(also look for Sneakoscopic goggles, which also allow see-stealth and invis

But heres something for ya, most people only really look for stealthed scouts.

If you use a Chameleon totem (invis totem) THEN stealth, you will be both stealth and invis, and they will need BOTH see invis and stealth to see you.

IF they are lazy and only use butterfly (see stealth), NOT butterfly AND owl (stealth and invis) You will still be able to sneak up on them with Invis and stealth at the same time.

Remember though, beyond a certain range, anyone can see you no matter if stealth or invis.

also consider some players can see you anyways no matter what just because of their level. Unless they have changed it im pretty sure red cons can see straight thru grey con stealth.

Assassins are also really lucky having an instant stealth that has no recast or cast time. This is extremely useful in pve as you can run through dungeons with mobs chasing you and you can invis instantly, and the moment you are hit and are uninvised u can instantly invis again before you get to the next mobs (I have my hide away on my bar so I just press 4 to invis or uninvis). Takes a bit of practice but just allows assasins to skip past see invis mobs without needing to kill them.

Hope that post made sense, it did in my head but reading back… lol, im too lazy to reword it atall but sum assins must know wot im on about.
