Haunted Mansion (SPOILERS FOR THE NOTD EVENT!)

<p><span style="color: #ff00ff;">Once again, SPOILERS for the Nights of the Dead event! You have have been warned.</span></p><p>Ok, so maybe I'm over-thinking the whole thing ('tis the curse of being a genius), but I'm wondering if maybe I've gotten what exactly is going on here wrong, or if I'm understanding as it's meant to be understood.</p><p>Alright, so we meet the "goblin-ish" guy in one of the cities and arrange to meet someone about a meal. The deal is kinda shady, and it turns out the guy we're meeting is a vampire who bites us. Thus, we can infer we were the meal in question.</p><p>Next thing we know, we're waking up inside a building in Somborn Village, and Boris Vonarstein tells us, "Oh good, you're awake... I was beginning to worry. I found you unconscious on the other side of the village. You looked like you got in a pretty big scuffle. You should ask around to find out what happened to you."</p><p>So, taking that advice and asking around, we find a priest standing with a distraught man outside of a house. We are informed that his entire family has been murdered within the house, and the priest would like to investigate, but can't leave the man alone, and asks you to go instead.</p><p>Upon entering the mansion, we find it is overrun with vampires. Meeting the spirits of the family, we are told these things:</p><p><span style="color: #00ffff;">"... You! Murderer! ..."</span></p><p><span style="color: #00ffff;">"No! Not YOU again! Haven't you done this family enough harm!!"</span></p><p><span style="color: #00ffff;">"Where is my Mommy?"</span></p><p><span style="color: #00ffff;">"I can be good... Please... leave us alone."</span></p><p><span style="color: #00ffff;">"I didn't mean to make you mad! I'm sorry!"</span></p><p><span style="color: #00ffff;">"Mommy! I want my Mommy!"</span></p><p>After encountering the family and collected everything needed for the cleansing ritual, we head back to the music room. After performing the ritual, the vampire who bit us to begin this whole thing appears saying, <span style="color: #ff0000;">"So, you have returned, my child? Or do you not know what part you played in this mansion's curse? Hahaha! Stand against me after I embraced you and gave you eternal life and you will inevitably fail!"</span></p><p>After fighting with him for a moment, he flees to a new location, <span style="color: #ff0000;">"Enough of this insubordination! Let's take this fight elsewhere."</span></p><p>Fighting across the entry hall and family room, eventually he flees to the basement, <span style="color: #ff0000;">"Attempting to kill me will not remove your curse. You are doomed. Hahaha. Follow me to my basement if you dare!"</span></p><p>Finally tracking him down to the basement, and killing him, we are left with his final words, <span style="color: #ff0000;">"You don't understand that in all this I am not the villain. All along you focused your hatred to me when you should have been looking into the mirror..."</span></p><p>Looking into the mirror, we see a dark reflection of ourself staring back...</p><p><span style="color: #ffcc00;">You say, "In the mirror your true self can be revealed... The truth is finally revealed, the murderer is YOU! But can you do it? Can you slay a part of yourself? I think not..."</span></p><p>Proving this dark aspect wrong, we defeat it, and then are left with these final, haunting words:</p><p><span style="color: #ffcc00;">You say, "The curse fades but our heart will remain black! We will meet again!"</span></p><p>After all this is said and done, we return to the front of the house, to the priest. We then go on to explain that the house was infested with vampires, but don't mention anything about our dark reflection being the true evil within the house. Then we politely leave, saying we feel the need for a drink.</p><p>Ok, so if I'm reading into this right, we are bitten and recieve some sort of curse, possibly a form of vampirism. While we are blacked out, during the time we can't remember between being bitten and waking up in the inn, we venture into the house and murder the family. Then, when we wake up, we venture through the house, defeat the "curse" within us, and move on. However, the line about needing a drink, and the fact that you can earn a mirror which states it doesn't show the reflection of vampires, and doesn't reflect you, seems to imply that something still lingers on within us.</p><p>Is that pretty much what everyone else feels?</p>

<p>The description of the Vampiric Mirror you recieve as a reward is all you need to read to clear up any lingering questions.</p><p>Of course, this is just a holiday event, and come November 1st, we'll never see hide nor hair of anything that happened here again until at least until next October. I wouldn't place my money on a continuation.</p>

<p>OP, that was a great write up! I got the exact things you did from the quest and found it to be great fun! Very creative on the part of the dev(s) who came up with everything.</p>

So while I do hope they do something with this next year, I seriously doupt we will see much of this story beyond the event... if only because there will be people that have not done it(and can't atleast until next Holloween), and it would be confusing to tie the lore from a fun "onetime" event beyond the event itself, Also I think the reason that they did not totally expunge the curse is to give a lore reason to do the event a second time through.</p><p>Also, did anyone else notice that the house you wake up in contains the L&L for Werewolf? and if you read that L&L it seems very Familiar?</p>

I am the one that posted all that info in the Shadow Odyssey thread.</p><p>The ec/pc does not mean that they are a player race, but quite often it is used for races that can actually wear armor like player races (like these Dark elf vamps and the original orcs). Other models actually have the armor as part of the model (like the regular vamps).</p><p>As far as Varsoon is concerned, it is quite obvious by now that Anashti Sul is behind the invasion, however that doesn't mean this guy won't show up at some point, especially since 3 of the new zones take place in the void itself. <img src="/eq2/images/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" /></p>

<p>My brother in law and I had finished this last night. And we just came back to EQ2 after a 8 month leave. Both of us were pleasantly surprised by the voice chat and this event, Awesome SOE.</p>

<p>it's just an halloween event. even with characters who haven't done it, there's no reflection and you see the wall behind the mirror. Not a true mirror.</p><p>So sorry, you will not become a vampire, it's just a fun halloween event.</p>
