View Full Version : Any new servers planned?

The reason I ask, is that I'm just returning to EQ2 after a 3 year hiatis and it would be great to jump on a "newer" server to have more people to group with etc. Rather then playing on a server that is primarily high level folks occasionally playing an alt.

So are there any plans to add a new server anytime soon?

None that we have heard of.... actually some people request a server merge....

I think there are a few servers that are under populated, but the one I'm on (guk) seems to have plenty of people. There arent a lot of lower level folks, but as I've leveled Alts I have pretty much always seen groups heading to dungeons. (I play mostly during primetime US)

I doubt a new server is likely unless the EQ2 population increases drastically though.

To be perfectly honest, I doubt that a new server would change things in terms of leveling up. Things have changed quite a bit from when you used to play; the way the game is designed now, it's far more efficient to solo through the lower tier content by working through quest timelines. People tend to group only for specific quests or one time through a dungeon for AA. In fact, grouping a lot at the lower levels actually can hurt character development because your level will outpace the number of AA points you've earned, unless you disable combat XP. With a 140 total AA points, soon to be 200, it takes some planning to make sure that you earn a sufficient number of points per level, and don't find yourself at level 80 needing 100 more points when TSO is released.

Most of the servers are already sparsely populated so another server wouldn't be a good idea.

Everfrost in primetime seems to be jumping. Not absolutely crawling with folks, but it's not at all unusual to go to someplace like Feerrott or Zek and see at least 10-20 other people running around doing their thing. More in some of the higher end outdoor zones. Which to be honest, is about the same I saw on the WoW server I played on during peak times. So I don't think it's all that bad.

There are SOME servers that are apparently sparse, but they'll only continue to get more sparse if people continually avoid them to go to what I consider hugely bloated servers like Antonia Bayle =) (not knocking that server btw, just has a lot of population from what I hear).

To the OP though, there aren't any new servers and as stated by others there are unlikely to be any at this time. I haven't personally had any issues getting groups for my alts leveling up though and with the new mentoring bonuses I think there will be more people of higher level willing to group with lower folks to do things.

Besides, if someone really wants to group with you, they can always mentor down. It is still quite possible to find groups as a social mechanism but only if you make no expectations about the task the group sets out to do.

Yeah, i figured as much, just kind of threw it out there as a discussion point more then anything.

Funny you mention AB because that was the original server I played on and still have my old characters there so thats where i am now. And as a returning/new player, why wouldn't you go to the more populated servers? Just seems logical to me I guess.

Right now I am playing a Dirge but still in Tier 1 / Tier 2 I imagine once I get to Tier 3,4,5 I'll start doing some more 'group searching' and hopefully I can find a decent casual guild to take me in =)

I played EQ1 for 4+ years, WoW for 3+ so I'm fairly familiar with the social aspects of MMOs.

I have not nore will I ever pick a heavly populated server, to me that wouldn't be fun. Of course I don't pick the least populated ones I try and hit middle of the road. Allows me alot of flexibility with the least amount of agravation from other players because X spot is camped to death or too much lag or any other of those issues large populations have.

I dunno about anywhere else, but a LOT of people on Lucan D'Lere play their lower-level alts, and we're questing in many cases rather than speed-levelling.

I love having alts so I can explore tons of content that I either missed earlier or which has been introduced since I levelled my first toon.

The key to getting a good play experience is probably to roll your new toon at what will be YOUR peak playtime. Then look at the servers that have higher populations.

I woulnd't mind (don't shoot me) if they merged Oasis into other servers as long as they gave everyone the choice to move to ANY other server. Allow entire guilds to move, hall, homes, points, and all. I know there are a lot of people in guilds who haven't played in ages and would never know about the move. Open up the free choice move for two months. If there are still people who have not logged in then move them to the server that the guild went to.

Every guild I have been in seems to be a tight community. They group and raid together.

Zoo

Zones so laggy that you cannot move... Every expansion for about the first month you will see the AB section ripe wih requests for ne w hamsters and free moves because the waits are so long. Add to this longer patch/down times due to the larger database... frequent server crashing due to the influx of population...

Still want to join AB again? =)

Personally, I think they need to merge again. My highest toon, is 27 and its a pita to find people to group with. Even on Antonia Bayle. I transfered from there recently to be with my guild and its even worse than it was on AB where you could get a group every few days, not necessarily to finish what you wanted, but there was some lowbie grouping. Ive cancelled this game 4x now, and I keep coming back here and there because I do enjoy it BUT for a group centric game, the lowbie population is lacking and lacking bad. Joining a guild helps a lot but you can't just keep asking guildies to run you through stuff. The newest changes dont sit well with me either, because now, just finish 2 or 3 quests and level again. You whip through the lowbie game, why even have it? Start everyone at 50 or whatever then. (sarcastic). Well, maybe not so sarcastic because everyone is high level. This is a bad game for true newbies, not because the game is bad, its actually a fantastic game, but because you can't enjoy it because you're frickin soloing all the time and the tantalizing group quests, epics, heroics on the lowbie levels are out of reach until you outlevel them. So once again the cycle repeats itself and you quit since theres no grouping.

I have toons ranging from level 12 to level 60.. and on a sparsely populated server, still have no problem finding a group.

Not to call you out or anything, but perhaps its the way you're looking for groups? And, reputations do follow, regardless of how big a server is; so a bad mishap in one group may effect one's ability to find groups as well.

I'm just always confused with these claims that "there are no groups to join". When other folks don't seem to be having a problem finding groups. Wouldn't that suggest that the problem isn't with the population, but rather the methods people use to find groups.

/shrugs

spyder, im gonna guess its:

/lfg

"XX <class> lfg" in level channel for about 30 minutes. then,

/logout.

form your own groups. dont need to be full or have perfect setups.

And if you advertise in 1-9 chat as well, you should be able to find something even if it means mentoring down(in fact, on RE i see pretty much ALL communication take place in 1-9 instead of level appropriate).
