Hello EQ2 players!

Ive turned to this game in hope I would find a game like Dark age of Camelot. Unfortunately Warhammer just wasnt my thing. What Im looking for:

Many different classes, especially unique ones not just typical archetypes.

Nice PvP.

Leveling that doesnt take forever to get max level.

And most important a game where gear/equipment is not everything.

Overall realistic graphics and feel.

Atleast more players than 455 peak load!

Can you charm different pets? Run like the wind? Do you actually cast most spells instead of having 10 powerfull instant spells?

Im just looking for more of the fun I had in a game that has more players

Some of your questions it appeared you kinda answered yourself. The graphics are great, I agree. Funny how a game that was made years ago are better than most all games put out today even, I'll give EQ2 that. Sadly gear does make a huge difference in how successful you can and will be. However that being said. I've met many peeps over the years with awesome raid gear, but played like a tool, and I'd never group with ever again. As far as pvp goes. I'm a bit tainted on that. I love pvp in many of the other games. But in EQ2 I didn't like it too much. Maybe you'll find you like it. But for me, and many others EQ2 kinda fails in that dept. But as a game in general it is quite possibly the best of its kind around. And I'd recommend it to anybody who thinks they might like a game with this sort of theme. I've been around since beta basically, and it's shocking how it has changed over the years. And yes I still love it.

Thx for your answers.

Im not sure about the EQ2 PvP hehe but since I havent tried it I cant judge.

About the gear it was really hard for me in WoW to get some good stuff but that was back before they released any expansion. After playing WoW I went back to Daoc and found it alot more fun I ended up having many max leveled in that game

And if I couldnt afford a really good item I could craft a very good one to make up for it. Crafting did take along time but it was kind of historical.

When I get home I will start to play EQ2

Maegovannen wrote:
Im not sure about the EQ2 PvP hehe but since I havent tried it I cant judge.
Well, to be honest, your question is a loaded one. There really isn't a generic "The PvP is Great!" or "The PvP is Awful!" response. It all depends on your play style. Do you enjoy group PvP, solo PvP, raid PvP? Do you prefer to be fighting 24/7 or questing most of the time and PvP'n on a casual basis?None is better than the other, and all styles are available to you on the EQ2 PvP servers. Each of them have their draw backs. Solo PvP can be a blast for example. But, it can also be very frustrating when rolled down by groups. It all depends on how you roll, how much patience you have, and how much effort you put in to learning your character's strengths and weaknesses.Personally, I've found EQ2 PvP very rewarding compared to my experiences in other games, both newer and older. But, that is just one Ratonga's opinion.Welcome to Norrath! I hope you enjoy the game as much as the rest of us no matter where you land!

What Im looking for:

Many different classes, especially unique ones not just typical archetypes.

Nice PvP.

PvP in EQ2 is really an afterthought. It has come a long way since the game came out without it, but still it is clearly not the primary focus of the game.

Leveling that doesnt take forever to get max level.

The experience curve was made easier with the last game update. Still, the emphasis remains on grinding and letting high level players mingle with low levels through the mentoring system.

And most important a game where gear/equipment is not everything.

Like most MMORPG's, EQ2 is very equipment centric. Part of the character advancement involves hunting named mobs, completing quests or crafting to get better gear. Especially in the endgame advancement is done purely through aquiring new gear.

Overall realistic graphics and feel.

EQ2 is one of the best in terms of look and feel. The decission to make an engine so advanced no computer existed yet that could run it at an acceptable framerate on launch paid off in that regard.

Atleast more players than 455 peak load!

Should be ok. Provided you pick a server whose peak time coincides with your playtime. Ask around if you are not sure what server region you should aim for. For an American for example it is not a good idea to play on an Aussie heavy server unless he likes to play alone.

Can you charm different pets? Run like the wind? Do you actually cast most spells instead of having 10 powerfull instant spells?

Pets tend to be summoned rather than charmed. Charming creatures is in the game, but it is strictly a form of crowd control where a monster fights for you for a brief while before turning against you.

There are some speed enhancements, but overall the foxus in that regard is on mounts and intra zone express travel (like the griffin towers). Inter zone travel is highly constrained. You can only travel to a certain zone from one that is directly adjacent.

Im just looking for more of the fun I had in a game that has more players

Given that you like to focus on PvP and don't want to bother much with the tools of your trade(the equipment), i'm going to go out on a limb here and say that you may enjoy EVE Online more than you will enjoy EQ2. Its economy revolves around disposable equipment rather than constant upgrades and most PvE there serves purely as a resource to fuel the war machines of PvP, which is available on many many levels there(including "market PvP" and "not playing nice&quot. Classwise EVE is pretty much DYI, as it is skill centric rather than class/level centric. A newbie who focusses skill training in specific areas can contribute meaningfully to endgame groups within a few hours of creation so it is about as grindless as you will find. Just lots and lots of very hostile PvP.

Sounds like you might want Conan if you want non-equipment based PvP

Thanks all for being helpfull.

I know its bad to just cut it off from what you tell me and I should try for myself. But the more I gather info on EQ2 it doesnt seem to be my thing. I have also played it a little I suddenly figured it was time to try something exactly the opposite for once.

Now that the old game is almost dead and friends quit and moved on to do stuff in life. I figured I would do my old spare times activities I neglected many years ago like sport activities for example.

I think Ive done pretty much everything I could since 2003 in a mmo. Well standing as a level 6 on isle I figured Im not gonna kill one more mob for a long time.

Mmorpgs have been so much fun over the time dont get me wrong and I wish every new player a happy experience.

PS: Ofc Ill still play games, Ive been looking at going back to fps hehe havent played one for years.

Have fun!

EQ2 Pvp is very heavily gear based.

But, the mastercrafted gear is some of the best in the game...so, it is accesable to everyone.

You just have to put in the time to harvest of make plat so you can have the stuff made for you.
