View Full Version : Box ~vs~ DD reward idea...

So I had this weird idea go through my head. How about this concept for promoting expansions:When you purchase an expansion, you get all the rewards from the previous expansions, both DD and Boxed. A catch up system that would allow those who can't get the boxed items because the retail version is unavailable; at the same time, throwing in a perk for those who bought the retail version , thus missing the DD rewards. So the incentive to choose the current reward offered by DD or Box still exists, since that won't change the reward of the next purchase, yet every new expansion purchased gives you a nice perk that you missed from the previous expansion. What better way to show goodwill and generosity? Seriously, your going to have to make a choice that will effect what reward you gain for use until the next expansion, when you will have both the new and older rewards to look forward to.The reward then comes down to having a years worth of use on an item that was "exclusive" to that purchase.

Unless I was bugged, I got the EoF box only plant when I got RoK. When I bought EoF, it was through DD, so I didn't have it until RoK.

Not only was the boxed version of Kunark clearly just a repackaged EoF DVD with a GU or two (there weren't ANY Kunark-related files on either disc and it took hours and hours to update). But the 2 posters were uninspiring. It was the Dark Elf (which couldn't even start in a Kunark zone), and LoN. And the packaging for the DVDs was little paper envelopes. Talk about underwhelming. I gave up on buying the boxed version with Kunark.

What bugs me and why I suggested what I did in this post is that I don't really mind having to make a choice; when there is a choice to be made. In our families case it's hit all the stores in the NJ Metro Area and pray for some copies. This was alright in the early days of Everquest Live when you hit the store and they explained that all 100 copies sold out in a few hours. It's not alright when they tell you that the 3 copies reserved for the chain are somewhere 60 miles away, maybe... We need 5 copies of the game, not an easy scavenger hunt.

Do I pre-order the retail version and not have the game until after release, sometimes a week later?

Do I visit all the stores in the area (Best Buy and Target still have DoF on the shelf) and hope for a miracle?

Do I opt for the DD and get a reward that I really don't want as much?

Again, if the shelves had a reasonable (read: at least 2) amount stocked, I could see why they have this promotion that separates retail from DD. Obviously, it's not working since the shelves are stocked with all the just released games as well as pre-orders to other expansions and games. Allow this little rant if you will. Sony, based on the console games should hold some clout in the game stores, you think? The stores make some decent change off that line. Could they not somehow beg, plead and steal some shelf space somehow?
