View Full Version : Patch download

I purchased this game yesterday and installed it. I then attempted to download the patch to actually play and it gave me a patch timer that increased from ten hours to seventy hours over the hour I let it download. I assumed it was my poor internet connection and came into town to try another connection for what I assumed would be a large initial patch. No dice, on a regular DSL connection it still gave me dozens of hours for the patch.<div></div><div>I did everything that has been posted on these boards about Vista - disabling user account control, XP SP2 compatability mode, etc. Still the same deal - dozens of hours on patch time.</div><div></div><div>So, I called customer support - on my dime - and tried to talk through the problem there. We tried disabling firewalls, etc. Disabled them all and it did not work. So he asked me to e-mail him some information on my computer, ipconfig, tracert, etc. He e-mailed me the directions and asked me to e-mail them back. I did as asked, performed those operations, generated eq2info.txt and responded to the email. I got a response telling me that I was sending them information from an e-mail address not associated with original incident. I replied to that e-mail and got the same one back. </div><div></div><div>Phone CS is now closed. Chat CS is now closed. What? Could it possibly be that people deal with computer games AFTER work hours?! Could it possibly be that everyone does NOT live in pacific time?! </div><div></div><div>This is ridiculous. Fix my MFing problem. </div><div></div><div>For what it is worth, I bought WoW a month or so ago. I installed it, and within two hours was able to play it on the internet connection i first tried patching EQ2 on. There is simply no excuse for the incompetence and poor customer support I am experiencing. I dropped WoW to play this because WoW was a superficial game with no community and I played EQ1 for years, and Vanguard after that. I would LOVE to drop SOE's competitor and return to them, but it appears that they do not care even a little bit. </div><div></div><div>If this is not fixed within 24 hours, I will very likely never even consider touching another SOE product. It is too bad, somewhere buried beneath their staggering incompetence they have some very nice games hidden. </div><div></div><div>And for the love of Christ, if anyone tells me to use the search function, go die of cancer. I bought the game, I installed it, and 24 hours later it does not work. I paid the MFing money, I shouldn't have to play detective to get the MFing thing to work. Clock is ticking SOE, figure out whether or not you want my money.</div>

And it would appear they cannot run their forum competently either. Double post as a result of error message generated by the initial post. <div></div><div>What a joke.</div>

Did you try just letting it go for a couple hours? I doubt that is the answer you're looking for, but download timer estimates are just that, estimates, and they're rarely very accurate. If you know anybody else that plays EQ2 you could copy the contents of some of the folders from their installation to your's and it'll dramatically shorten your patch time. When a big patch hits, I let my wife patch, and then I copy files off her computer so I don't have to download the patch myself.

Yeah, I let it go for 12 hours last night (overnight) got less than ten percent patched.<div></div><div>I would try copying folders, but I don't know anyone who plays. </div><div></div><div>Thanks though, good suggestions.</div><div></div><div>Tick Tock SOE, people who are not being paid to do customer support are doing more than you are. Tick tock.</div>

I'm having the exact same problem only I have been a very happy EQ2 player for 2 years. I'm getting very frustrated that I can't get the patch to download. I've done everything you did and still for the 3rd day in a row cannot get the patch to download. I thing it might be with Vista and some sort of looping problem. I just need specific directions as to how or what I should do to fix the problem. I miss playing ...

Everything inside me tells me to leave this one alone.... as you need to remember that the forums are NOT only just for the TSR's to try to help, but other players..... so in being rude to the TSR's you are infact rude to anyone that attempts to help... By the way... I lost my best friend and mother last year to Cancer... so thank you. However, it is a Great game and usually it plays well on thousands of computers....and I would like you to play this game to see for yourself...My questions to you are the standard ones.. Did you allow EQ2 through the Firewall/router? Even some disabled firewalls try to protect you.The game is about 10 gigs long and depending on the version that you purchased, you may need to update quite a bit. Are you on something like a campus line? Hotel? If you, then you need to speak to the person in charge of their IT.I will give you some links and hope that they work for both of you.... The estimated time is always bad with this game.. but there are a few things that you can do to speed it up. If you see it appear to "stick" on a fiole, close the patcher and restart it.... It will pick up where it left off.<a rel="nofollow" href="http://help.station.sony.com/cgi-bin/soe.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=12293&p_created=1099871058&p_sid=-UoYe-fj&p_accessibility=0&p_redirect=1&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX 3Jvd19jbnQ9MTA3NSwxMDc1JnBfcHJvZHM9JnBfY2F0cz0mcF9 wdj0mcF9jdj0mcF9zZWFyY2hfdHlwZT1zZWFyY2hfbmwmcF9wY WdlPTEmcF9zZWFyY2hfdGV4dD1maXJld2FsbCBlcTI*&p_li=&p_topview=1" target="_blank">[<b>EQ2</b>] <b>Firewall</b> and Proxy Information for EverQuest II</a><a rel="nofollow" href="http://help.station.sony.com/cgi-bin/soe.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=19412&p_created=1218061486&p_sid=-UoYe-fj&p_accessibility=0&p_redirect=1&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX 3Jvd19jbnQ9MjYsMjYmcF9wcm9kcz0yMCZwX2NhdHM9MCZwX3B 2PTEuMjAmcF9jdj0mcF9zZWFyY2hfdHlwZT1hbnN3ZXJzLnNlY XJjaF9ubCZwX3BhZ2U9MSZwX3NlYXJjaF90ZXh0PVZpc3Rh&p_li=&p_topview=1" target="_blank">[TECH] Station Launcher does not run in Windows <b>Vista</b></a><a rel="nofollow" href="http://help.station.sony.com/cgi-bin/soe.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=19451&p_created=1218829933&p_sid=-UoYe-fj&p_accessibility=0&p_redirect=1&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX 3Jvd19jbnQ9MjYsMjYmcF9wcm9kcz0yMCZwX2NhdHM9MCZwX3B 2PTEuMjAmcF9jdj0mcF9zZWFyY2hfdHlwZT1hbnN3ZXJzLnNlY XJjaF9ubCZwX3BhZ2U9MSZwX3NlYXJjaF90ZXh0PVZpc3Rh&p_li=&p_topview=1" target="_blank">[TECH] Video Walkthrough: <b>Vista</b> Compatibility and Running as Administrator</a>Perhaps posting that info that the tech asked for may help... The tracert shows some high numbers... but not sure if that would be your issue or not....Could you post a path ping as well? I see a wireless on there, have you tried a direct wire by any chance?

I asked someone who understands this sort of stuff far better than I.He suggested that if you are using the launchpad to try switching to the <a href="http://launcher.station.sony.com/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">station launcher</a> or if you're using the station launcher to try switching to the launchpad. It seems that trading sometimes fools vista into working.Regardless, it will take a while to patch, but hopefully that will help.If not, I'll go back to the drawing board and ask around some more.

The problem sits you your connection - you show a routable IP address on your tracert, your response time pings are higher then even dial up should be. There is an issue on the netweork connection side. This mean either you are using dial up or a satallite connection of some sort - if the latter then you will have issue playing any online game due to latency, bandwidth throttleing by the provider and transmistter csu/dsu sharing on the bird - business users always have a higher priorty on transmitter bandwidth on the birds.</p><p>2. Since you do have a routable IP address on your configuration, it appears that the internet provider has some form of bandwth throttling and/or firewall in place, this can be the cause of your problem</p><p>3. The game is ever changing, the disc's that you are using where cut a logn time ago, there have numberous minor patchs AND major patches since those disk where sent to the store, you have to download everything that has been update, there is no working around. Sorry WOW does not do the massive ingame upgrades that EQ2 does, nore does it graphics/sounds compare. Higher quality equal larger file sizes. WOW does not have 1/10 of the NPC interaction that eq2 does, nor does it have the same NPC voice interaction, nor does it have the same level background ambiance that EQ2 does. (Yes I play both)</p><p>4. No MMORPG provider has after hours support via phone, even WOW on has normal business hours. SOE's support hours are 10 AM to 7 PM Pacific, which not knowing what time zone you reside it, even fr east coast that brings support to the late evening hours, unless you work a second shift their support would be open for you. You posted at 10PM pacific tonight. </p><p>5. If their email support isd th same as numerous companies your emailed information goes to a queue that matches the email address on your account - it adds to teh customer service ticket to keep things organized and provides a trace record to see what has been done. The reponse yiou recieved is telling you that the from address that you used to send the email does not match the one that was used to open the incident, so it responded to you informing you of this and to correct the problem and resend, replying to that email does nothing but trigger the exact same repsonse from the system., You need to determine what email was used to open the incident and send the requestwed information from that email address. If you don;t know what that one is, then go the the My Account tab on the upper right hand corner of this forum and logon to your account, verify the email that you used when you created the account, then verify the one in the indicident support tab. send the information from that email address.</p><p>6. threats and vulgarity do nothing to enhance your request for assistance, if you want help, listen to the responses that people give you, posting on the forums gets you assistance from not only the TSR's but form a large pool of fellow players that bring their own unique skill set in assisting players that have issue to resolve the problems.</p><p>7. If you are interested in getting assistance on the forum, there is a stickied post in this forum that detaisl out how to run the needed diagnostic routines, what portions of them are needed to aid in the problem determination and exactly how to post the needed information to adhere to the forum rules, run the reports, split out the information, post them as instructed in the stickied post</p><p>8. given the reponse time and latency indicated in your tracerts, you have a slow connection, or it is bandwidth throttled, you will take a long time to download the initial patches, enhancements, additional free content that has been added to the game, nothing you can do about that, it is depended on your connection speed and throttling by your provider - what you can do is if you have a friend that playes, they can burn the directory to dvd/cd and you can copy those files to your machine, but be warned, the total size of the directoy can run close to 10 GB</p>
