I can only afford to pay for one MMO at a time, and I wanted to try SWG out with my friend. If I cancel my EQII account, and start a subscription for SWG, will my characters in EQ still be there when I start back up? And vise versa?

Most likely yes. They rarely purge the characters since it is a big reason to come back. We turned off some of our accounts for about a year with no issues. The lower the character, the more chance of deletion but even that is a small chance.

You could also try siging up with Station Access. Then you should have acess to EQII, EQ, SWG, Vanguard and some other SOE games. Unless it has gone up it is around $32.00 amonth, if you play several of the SOE games or just want to try them out it might be worth the time and money going that route.

no offence, but are you mad?

i seriously suggest you try the swg trial before paying for a subscription. it *was* a very good game until they tried to copy wow.. and now, well... i can't really say without it being censored.

The trial can be downloaded at http://starwarsgalaxies.station.son...ent.vm?id=62963

Your characters will be waiting for you, don't even give it a second thought.

And yeah, I'd strongly suggest trying out that trial before just heading over to SW:G. It's sad what they've done to what was once a genuinely fun game.

Prejudices/opinions about SWG aside,

It's generally a smart idea to play the limited trial before committing to purchase a game. Being able to sample the game before you have to shell out money is one of the great advantages MMORPG's have over retail boxed single player games.

Also, if you *DO* decide to get station access, it may include free activation of SWG and TMO. At least the station launcher activated those games for me when i bought station access(i got it because i enjoy EQ2, POTBS and PS).

To add a little to this, if you get the trial you can activate from it without buying the game. But if you actually play the whole trial, I am pretty confident you will not activate it anyways. I played it for only a couple days and was like "Wow this is awesome!" then activated it and played it for about another day. It's only an MMO in the sense that there are other people playing, but at low levels you're not gonna see other people except maybe a person or 2 in some bigger cities. It's sad, the game was so unique at launch. It was great, and allowed pretty deep customization options, ie you got to pick what you wanted to do. If you wanted to be a dancing, spice dealing smuggler, you could. Now it's highly limited. The crafting system is still fantastic, but the markets are slim so it's hard to make money unless you're level 90 and only making top end stuff. I wanted so much to like it p.s. Rage...has PotBS changed much since launch?

I don't know what PotBS was like at launch but I like it as it is. Fun stuff to play on the side.

Opti wrote:
p.s. Rage...has PotBS changed much since launch?

I can't really answer that as for some reason it was extremely difficult to obtain a copy of the game in Europe. I didn't spot one until about a year after launch(granted, since i also dabble in EVE online i wasn't looking too hard ).

From what i read it had its fair share of changes. The capitals were revamped(PaP twice because the first revision turned it into a maze)and some tweaks to the port battle system aimed at making PvP zones unlikely in newbie areas and preventing ninja captures(a PB can now only occur during a specific timeframe set per server). Most importantly however, there is now an insurance system in place that gives a partial refund on lost durability points. This makes combat scuttling the recommended course of action for obsolete ships. Oh! and pirates have been split into 2 classes.

Station access? A tad overpriced for most people at over twice the monthly subscription fee. You'd have to want the extra features and be active in both games (or 3 or more).

I have left EQ2 multiple times to try other games, the only thing that ever happened to a toon was having it's name changed on a server merge. (and I have 3 accounts with 20 toons).
