View Full Version : Something cosmetic I'd like to see: Fighting Stances

No, I don't just mean the offensive and defensive stances that the melee classes use, although what I'm suggesting will include those.I'm talking about being able to make your character fight in a certain style, instead of the basic stance that everyone goes into when autoattack goes on.What I'm thinking is this: Whenever you reach the end of a line in the class tree, along with the new skill and title, you get a "stance" buff - a fluff buff that does nothing but make your character stand differently when fighting.I'll use my Swash as an example. Until recently, my Swash went down the Pirate and Thief AA lines. Getting Sailwind in the Pirate line would grant him Pirate's Stance (just bear with the generic names here), and when in combat, he would probably look similar to the basic combat stance now - slightly hunched, weapons held low, ready to strike out. As a Thief, though, he may adopt a more "stealthy" stance - crouched down a bit, one weapon held out in front to parry, the other at his side, ready to stab (this assuming you're dual wielding). Just a while ago, though, I respecced him out of the Thief line and put those points into the Fencer line - and I got rid of my dual sais in favor of a single rapier (I went from fighting like Raphael to fighting like Raphael; if you understood that, you get a cookie =P). Now, he would be able to go into the Fencer's Stance and, well, fence. Body turned to the side, light on his feet, making quick jabs with the rapier.Of course, this will apply to all classes, but I'm more familiar with the Rogue AA tree and therefore can't really think of many examples for other classes. Warriors may be able to use a defensive stance, shield out front; or a berserker stance, dual weapons swinging wildly. Or, instead of using an AA stance, a melee class could use their current offensive or defensive stance, and add the fluff to the already existing buff. Monks could have a lot of variety with their styles, as well. Mages could have different hand signs or movements when casting, depending on the stance they take. Priests could do either melee stances or different casting movements. There may be a few bugs to work out, though - some stances might have to have weapon restrictions, lest they look ridiculous (a Swash fencing with an axe, for example). Also, I would assume that it would be difficult to implement, as far as changing the character model movement. However, if done right, these stances would look really, really awesome.So... discuss?

I have to say, I would love something like this. Would make playing a Brawler style character REALLY fun too.

<p>The stance/posture wielding a shield also looks silly. Totally uncombatative and unaware. The arms spread away from the body with the shield not protecting the body. Like a silly caveman: "Ugh. Here me am. Try kill me, worm. Ugh!"</p><p>Here's how it should look wielding a shield:</p><p><a href="http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/posts/list.m?topic_id=421811" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...421811</a></p>

Play in first person mode, and suddenly none of this seems to matter anymore, you start carring a whole lot more about just general classes that are flat out broken, or particle effects that can't be toggled on and off, and other more game-play affecting issues.

Holding up to your shoulder like that is a more casual stance than as it is now.PS atan: finding a mobs back on a raid in first person is a pita <img src="/smilies/9d71f0541cff0a302a0309c5079e8dee.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />

<p>The weapon in my example is not meant to be held over the shoulder/leaned backwards. It's just my simple insufficient artwork/perspective.</p><p>At least it should not be held as if it were too heavy; it should be held upright somehow, 'ready' to hit the enemy. </p>

I would like to see my swashy stop looking like they are beating down a mob with a club or something when they are using a sword.

Yeah, that's something I've been suggesting for years: accurate weapon animations. All 1H weapons except fists swing the same, all 2H weapons except staves swing the same, and I find it really annoying that my Fury swings his hammer in the exact way that my Swash swings his rapier. I'd like to see slicing swords, smashing hammers and maces, bludgeoning clubs, stabbing daggers, and fencing rapiers.
