View Full Version : DPS weapon questions
I have been told multiple times that paladins only dps are with 2h weapons, I was wondering if this was true or can dps be brought out by a good one handed weapon a shield for shield bashing ?

DPS depends on many things of course... if you are talking straight melee damage, then a 2hder will do more damage over time. A sheild is most necessary for tanking purposes, and survivability... plus stats.

That is not to say that there are no 1hder + sheild combinations that are as good as 2hder's for damage. Spell damage is also dps, as are procs... so the overall combination is the final numbers count that matters.

Most Paladins use the 2hd weapons when they are not the main tank, and (may) switch to 2hder + sheild for tanking jobs when they are. Actually, with comparable weapons ( Tier and legendary vs crafted etc.) there is no really that much difference in many cases.

You chose as you feel works for you !

Erithorn

my personal "dps" setup weaponwise is fabled / mythical epic+runnyeye buckler, sure its not as great as some of the better 2handers, but atleast it goes a few seconds faster to get into a better shield if my healers are having issues keeping me up!

There was a test with auto attack dmg on mythical+the 5% DA buckler from Veksar vs a fabled axe from VP.. (name eludes me)..

The average parse was only 30-40 more dps with the axe.. This small gap would apperantly be bigger if you have more dps mods tho..

It was my test Note the low dps mod (solo dps gear); with a dps mod and debuffs the numbers and difference you'll see will amplify; bare in mind this is PURE autoattack so don't bother pointing fingers and say these parses suck its JUST toggle autooatack and killing the training wall
10 rounds with Mythical + Ghostly Guard - autoattack only (kind of makes me realise I need more +dps mods )
Melee Crit - 83%Double Attack - 31%Spell Crit - 86%Strength - 1039Intelligence - 471DPS Mod - 14Haste Mod - 18Slashing - 473

Average : 914.04Min parse: 751.66Max Parse: 1032.32

Avoidance: 5088

10 rounds with Doombringer Pendulum

Melee Crit - 77%Double Attack - 34%Spell Crit - 86%Strength - 947Intelligence - 511DPS Mod - 14Haste Mod - 18Slashing - 471

Average : 936.96Min parse: 846.70 (2min 50s)Max Parse: 1213.08 (1min 45s)

Avoidance: 3216

-----

10 rounds with Mythical Righteous Barrier of Devotion; still in dps gear.- if I'm MTing an easy zone or OTing this is the mode I use the most

Melee Crit - 83%Double Attack - 26%Spell Crit - 86%Strength - 1024Intelligence - 521DPS Mod - 14Haste Mod - 18Slashing - 473

Average : 864.45Min parse: 763.32Max Parse: 1027.69

Avoidance: 6876

---

Conclusion:

Surprisingly effective increase HOWEVER this is only b/c proportionally it increased my DA more in a raid or group situation the difference between the two shields will become less dependant on buffs.
