I buy a lot of resources for crafting, so I visit people's homes a lot to avoid paying broker fees. But I've noticed that a lot of people don't give me the option to buy from them directly. I would gladly pay the price they want, but not with the additional 20-40% broker fee.

So I'm guessing a lot of folks don't know how to sell things without the broker fee.

First, you need a home. Basic Inn Rooms are free, with a very modest rental fee (a few silver). Don't worry about keeping up the rent if you won't be around to pay the rent. You won't lose your room or the stuff you put in it. You only loose the ability to enter it (and other people too, like potential buyers, of course.) You can enter it and everything will still be there once you pay the rent (and you aren't charged for back rent, what a deal!) If you decide to buy a bigger place, there are no moving hassles, just buy it. Everything in your old house will automatically appear in a moving crate in your new home.

You need to buy a Salesman crate to sell things out of. There are specialized crates with very large capacity, but you can only put a particular item in them (like Spell Scroll Stands). Once you put it in the broker window, you need to access the broker from your home (via the bulletin board) and then place the crate physically within your house, by right clicking on the item.

That's it.

Please do it. There are a lot of resources I would willing pay what people are asking for, even if it means travelling to their homes (I'll generally travel to save 10-20 gold). There are some whose price is low enough that I will buy from them even counting broker fees, but they are losing money.

Here is the deal: You have the veteran display case and you will need the market board also. This can be bought on some merchants, cant really remember which ones though.Go to you your apartment with these, put the merchant board on your wall and open the broker window. Then place the vet display case on the broker slot where you put your boxes for selling. Then r-click the case and there you have the option to place the case in your apartment. The same thing can be done with all the mastercrafted broker crates.

Mastercrafted salesman's crates are made by carpenters. If you supply the rare, you can commission them for a fee, which will be substantially cheaper than buying one off of the broker. Wood is usually very plentiful, so you shouldn't have too much trouble harvesting your own.

Once you've placed it properly and filled it up, be sure to keep your rent paid. There's no point in having one if people can't get past the landlord. And it doesn't matter how much "expensive" stuff you have - even one item makes it worth it.

Believe me, it's amazing the difference it makes. On the rare occasions that I forget to pay rent, my sales dry up like Death Valley in August. Pay rent, and the money starts flowing again. Even the cheap stuff! I have no idea why, but having the option for people to bypass the broker fee is a huge inducement for people to buy from you, whether they take advantage of it or not.

Personally, once something reaches around 20-30 gold, I'm starting to be interested in bypassing that fee, and I'll be looking at the broker prices to see if that slightly-more-expensive item would be cheaper if I went to someone's house.

I got that Vet Case, when I try to place it in my house, it says Im not currently selling, or something? Im not sure how to set it up. Also, do you still have to be online while you sell that way? If so, do you have to still sit in your house for the whole time?

It works as Timaarit says. You have to put the Vet Case in a broker slot, which can be either the public brokers or the one you can access from your house via the market bulletin board. The market bulletin board is given for free to first time buyers via a quest given near the newbie housing areas (inns), or available for purchase (either from the same NPC or one nearby, I forget). To physically place the case/salesman crates/scroll stand/armor stand, etc, you have to access the broker from the market bulletin board, then right click the box to get the option to place it in your house.

And nope, no need to sit in your house or be on line (it was like that in EQ, and I think EQ2 at release, but that's been fixed in EQ2). you just need to pay your rent to keep your house accessible to you and your visitors. I think I saw something that indicated that you need to log on once every 7 days or something like that, but not sure if that was to keep your in home salescrates functioning or to ensure that your items are listed on the broker period.

Please let us know if you can't get it to work - I really hate paying broker fees.

That's where I buy based on low prices, but when I travel to someone's place I tend to look through their other goodies. I try on some of their lingerie, look through their spells scrolls for [Removed for Content] (come on, we all know its in there somewhere), and eat with their cutlery. Then I put it all back and buy the new clean ones. Remember that every time you buy random stuff from random sellers. It could have dwarf spittle all over it, by golly! That's why it's important to buy only from Trellium Industries, where we employee nothing but the cheapest gnomes to maintain our inventory for your safety. Not available on some servers. Some retrictions apply. All that running around to save a couple of gold. No way. The only time I ever go to the house is if the savings I can get is over 5 plat. If not, broker it is.
