View Full Version : Staggering sound after a while of gameplay

I'm having a problem with staggering sound after I play the game for perhaps 20 or 30 minutes. If I reboot, the problem goes away and then returns 20 to 30 minutes later. I was having problems all around lag due to insufficient swap space on the boot drive, but I reimaged my system, loading only Windows XP SP2 and EQ2, and those problems have gone away. With the sound, it's almost like it is not synchronizing quite right. It will start echoing a bit. I am running a AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ 2GHz, with 1MB of RAM. My video is a Geforce 7600GS. My audio is some integrated Realtek sound card. Not the most state of the art rig, but I'm running at Best Performance, so not a lot of eye candy. Also, I've boosted my virtual memory up to 3MB and noticed improvement in performance. If you have any idea why I'm having an issue with the sound, please leave me some feedback. Thanks

I had this issue once but only in groups, its either your sound driver or your intergrated card most likely, its possible you just need more ram and could turn off 3d sounds and etc to help it.

Greetings,I would recommend reinstalling your sound drivers as a first step if you haven't tried it already. If that doesn't work you may want to post your DXdiag information so we can investigate the issue for you.

I'm pretty sure that my drivers are fine. I just wiped my hard drive and reinstalled Windows XP and my sound drivers were one of those things that I installed manually. I tried to post my DXDiag output, but it was too big. Is there something specific that I need to post from it?

The most important sections to include would be from the start of the file until the end of the Sound section. I would also like to get some pieces of your MSinfo file as well. I'd be looking for the "Running Tasks" and "Error Reporting" sections specifically.

I just noticed that im still having the issue as well, it only happens with other players use abilitys in my groups it barly does it when I solo maybe from time to time. Soe couldnt even help me with the issue when I called them long ago so I doubt you will know anything from dxdiag or msconfig. Im going to try and get a new sound card and see if that fixes it, but it will be a little while before I can.

I almost never group, and I always have the problem. I even went and turned my sound settings to the minimum with no change. I am going to try to pick up a decent sound card and 1GB of memory today, and see if that has any effect.

Well, I added memory so I'm up to 2GB now, and I added a Soundblaster card and disabled my onboard Realtek. It is taking a lot longer to start the staggering now. It's almost like a cache isn't dumping properly, and eventually gets filled up. Anyway, open to any more ideas. Thanks.

I have discovered that it comes from the templar healing spell for me, maybe others but I made a templar and im going to get on the phone with soe and let them hear it, if you can find whats doing it that would be my suggestion.

Just wanted to say that I experience what sounds like the exact same problem. I've tried multiple sound cards after fresh installs and experience the same problem leading me to believe the physical sound cards and the sound card drivers are not the issue here. Possibly a game bug or manifestation of something else.

I, too, have experienced these sound distortions after playing the game for a while. If I let it go, it usually fixes itself after a while, although it usually takes hours. If I reboot my PC, it fixes the problem as well. I'm running XP Pro SP2 with 2G of RAM and an SB X-Fi Extreme Gamer sound card. I've recently done a reformat on my PC, and even more recently did a driver update on my sound card, so I'm sure everything's in line there. I don't seem to have any sound issues anywhere else, and have tested my sound setup more than once. So I'm pretty sure it's nothing on our end, at least not directly. On another note, I was having these issues with EQ2 a couple of months ago, but they stopped for a while. They've only recently returned, and I haven't changed any settings in the game or on my PC. Perhaps they fixed something in an update and then "broke" it again with another?

Any new info on this? This is an older thread, but seems to be the most similar to the problem I just began to experience. I have an older CL Audigy running xp 64 with 4 gig RAM and a amd x2 3800. Now after half an hour to an hour of gameplay I start to get this audio lag.

Greetings,

For the people experiencing this issue, what is the 'sound provider' set to in game? Try setting that option to read as 'miles 2 positional' or 'software' and let us know if the issue persists. Also, what operating system are you using on that computer?

Is there a solution for this problem yet? I am experiencing the exact same thing, I was running on "miles 2 positional". Just as one of the former posters said, the problem has been gone for some months, but has returned, might be with GU51.

This issue may be caused by the sample rate and bit depth currently enabled on your sound card. Please try the following instructions to lower the quality, and let me know if the problem persists:

1. Right-click on your sound (Speaker) icon on your taskbar --> Playback Devices2. Select your Sound Card from the list --> Properties --> "Advanced" tab3. Under "Default Format", select 2-channel, 16-bit, 44100Hz4. Press OK on both windows.
