Hi there, sorry if this has been asked before but a search provided nothing conclusive for me.

How do you time your ca's to occur only between autoattacks? I've tried waitig for the animation of my char attacking and it doesnt seem reliable, and can sometimes be hard to see my char.

I tried having the combat window open but there is so much stuff whizzing past that it doesnt really help either.

What do you find is the best way to work out when your auroattacks have happened?

Currently my brigand is dual weilding and both have a weapon speed of 4 (i saw message saying that was the best weaponspeed to have) previously i used much faster weapons and just spammed cas then let autoattack take up the slack while the timers reset, but it appears that i am falling way behind in dps when i do this.

Thanks

The short answer is: Don't worry about it.

Long answer: Auto attack is automatically queued up to fire between your CAs, not the other way around. Go ahead and use your CAs because they provide the majority of your DPS by far. The auto attack damage is just a slight bump in your total output (15 - 20%, last time I checked.)

You'll always be waiting for CAs to come around again. Use your Ruse line last, sometimes it takes a few seconds to fire. Start an HO. Run backwards and use your throw for the knockdown. Use Cheap Shot so you and the mob can spend a few seconds doing nothing together. And keep waiting...

I dont Time my CAs, mostly because I dont want to pay attention that hard. I play eq2 for fun...But I have played around doing it. This is what I believe to be true, but no warrenty expressed or implied. If you are interested I would use ACT. I would say if you are interest in dps at all you should get ACT first thing. There is a special plugin that will make a sound for every AA. It is something I would use only to train , as listening to bings every fight would get old.As far as what you gain.ACT will also show you a complete breakdown of dps. Im lvl 80 and AA does around 50% of my dps. IF you have 4 sec weaps dual wielding then your AA hits every 4.0 x 1.3 = 5.2 seconds before haste. At max haste you hit every 2.6s. With sailwind most your CAs take .8 seconds so you can hurt the AA by about .7 seconds worst case, .4 seconds on average.Sooo aprox .4 added to max hasted 2.6 seconds swings, doing about 50% of dps is around 8% dps penalty. As you have less haste this penalty drops. A typical max hasted/sailwind char will have a AA chance at 2.4s if all CAs are queued. So AA wont hit there and will be delayed until the 3.2s chance. I think most peeps that time on brigs try the leave a little delay after the third CA and before the 4th to get the AA to go off at 2.6 instead of 3.2. I think its alot of work for a meager gain. I would recommend only doing that when everything else you can do is covered. Like, CAs order, CAs adept III/master, pots and oils, gear, Alt advancement setup.
THIS IS SPECIFIC TO RAIDS AND GROUPS... Soloing is a whole different matter..If you don't time your autoattack when your 80, your missing out on about 1k damage with decent weapons. The crappier your weapons, the less it matters.Timing auto attack has 2 forms. One, use the plugin for ACT and wait for the beep, hit 2 ca's then wait for the beep.two, turn off everyones damage but your own, watch the numbers above hte mobs head, look for the numbers that are not outlined, hit 2 ca's then wait until you see them again. The reason why timing > spam is that you run out of combat arts when you spam. auto attack damage for 6ish seconds drops your parse quite a bit. So timing just a little nets more sustained dps.BTW, do not slow down your doubleup rotation at all.

I get some pretty decent parses and I don't worry about timing them. There are too many different factors that can make it impossible to truly maximize your auto attack without missing a lot with combat arts.

Here are a couple reasons why I don't time my CAs around my auto attack in a raid.

1. Tons of temp buffs going off that give anything from +damage on every attack +casting speed, +reuse speed, +recovery speed. You'd have to consistently change the number of combat arts you can fit between attacks. ( if you have a buff like jesters cap or divine recovery on you, for example, I would not worry about timing auto attacks. )

2. The faster you cast a combat art, the sooner it is available. If you pause for a second for every two combat arts, it means you'll fit less total combat arts in over an extended period of time. If you rotate through every single combat art you have, you will have very little time when you will have combat arts on cooldown.

3. AoE avoidence....usually it's best to try to time a chain of combat arts to get your aoe avoidence to proc as an aoe comes in, but sometimes AoEs happen when you don't expect and the busier you are with your combat arts the more likely you are to have your aoe avoidence up. A good brigand rarely jousts.

whats your guild and what is your toon's name, otherwise your point doesn't matter unless you do over 6k zonewide in SoH on trash.BTW, im devastatin @ unrest in Revelations =)

Hi,

Thanks for all the replies. I'll try out act for a bit to give me a rough idea on timings, hopefully once i get used to it i can turn t off.

I tried watching for the numbers but i see heaps, i'm guessing from poison and dagger procs and temper procs, so for me that isnt working (i'll check the options and see if i can turn more stuff off so i just see attack damage)

In act is the add on you are referring to the Double Attack.cs? (single and double attack detection and notification)

I currently have all adept 3 skills, but am intersted in any advice you have on ca orders (like which is the best ca to use double up on etc). I will have to resep my aa's for sailwind. i'll check the boards for reccomendations on aa setups.

My best weapons are anphlaxis(sp?) and sibellis croaking dagger atm.

Thanks again for your help

You have to turn off everybody elses combat spam but your own. Its an option. look for it.Turning it off gives a performance increase for some people also.
