I just created a Pally to play with as an Alt. I am trying to find something that tells me how to tank. Like how to tag mobs, and such but I cannot find it. So I will ask some questions here.Q: If I am tanking and a mob comes and attacks a group member, is there a fast way to target them without using the mouse and click?Q: As a Pally, should I be working on getting my Strenght up or my Stamina?Q: Should I be using a 2H or 1H with shield when tanking in a group? Solo?Q: Is there a tanking guide somewhere?

A lot of what you are asking is considered "basic" EQ2 skill, not necessarily just "tanking" per se which is why you won't see a lot of documentation on it. I will endeavor to help however.<div></div><div>Q: If I am tanking and a mob comes and attacks a group member, is there a fast way to target them without using the mouse and click?</div><div>A: Yes. You can use TAB to cycle through available targets and if you are facing the add it will *usually* target that mob first.  F8 Is another option which supposedly targets the closest mob. I use TAB, even though it gets me into trouble fairly regularly because it only takes a 1 millisecond to stab the TAB key with my pinky finger.</div><div></div><div>Q: As a Pally, should I be working on getting my Strenght up or my Stamina?</div><div>A: Yes. A Paladin needs Stamina, Strength, Intelligence, Agility and Wisdom. In other words EVERYTHING. Welcome to playing a hybrid class. Your gear selection will depend on your playstyle and resources. Generally I think it's the Devout mastercrafted plate (somebody correct me if I'm wrong here) that has ideal Crusader (ie Pally/SK) stats. </div><div></div><div>Q: Should I be using a 2H or 1H with shield when tanking in a group? Solo?</div><div>A: Depends on how hard you are getting hit. On my Pally at 80 I rarely put away my shield, but a lot of that is because my best weapon is my Epic 1Hander. For starters get a mastercrafted shield and get used to using it. You need it for one of your taunts wich is also a stun ca so get used to it. If you are killing a bunch of greens or dps is light in the group and heals are heavy, go for the 2 hander and have a ball. It's all situational. I have (no joke here) 3 36slot boxes full of gear that I carry around at all times on my pally with seperate macros for standard tanking, raid tanking, full out dps and heal/support setups. Get used to swapping out gear situationally.</div><div></div><div>Q: Is there a tanking guide somewhere?</div><div>A: Yes. There is a tanking 101 stickied at the top of this forum. There are probably similar guides sprinkled throughout the Guardian and Berserker forums as well. Read them all. Tanking is an art in many ways but the most important one is that one has never "finished" learning it. The game is deep and varied and you will be learning the nuances of the job for a long time to come if you are smart and willing.</div>

<p>I have slightly different opinions but all of the above is good advice.</p><p>First, forget stamina or strength. Go for mittigation. Before tier 7 mittigation is KING. After tier 6...mittigation is still great but avoidance plays a bigger part in what we need as tanks. </p><p>Second, unless your in a situations where your are fighting things that can't really hurt you or you have extra healers standing around bored stick to a shield and weapon. Two handed weapons are for when you arn't being threatened. Even if your healer can handle the extra damage that comes with a two handed weapon, it is costing them more power to heal you. Stick with the shield, especially once you get the AA that gives you a 25% boost to shield block.</p><p>Well, that should get you through the low levels. Look in the tips and tricks section for general fighter FAQs. I'd suggest the tanking FAQ I wrote a long time ago, but its on my guild's forum. <img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></p>

if you tank in a group, use 1h and tower shield or kite, use tower, more mitigation.ok, for archivementsfirst INT, then STR and ST if you're earning AA's , but if you have enough, just fill INT/STR/STAINT more dps /damage to your spellsSTR more melee /damageSTA more health to youfor Crusade AAINT 4/4/8STR 4/4/8STA 4/4/8for Paladin AA you have many options, but if you want to tank, I choose, Hero ability and Wraths.you say you're 21 pally, don't buy armor and don't buy treasured at least yet. if you have RoK, go and start questing in Timorous Deep, and use the quest rewards/items/armor/stuff, you can still use until 30's, if you have gold keep it to buy rares o harvest your rares and get some alchemist make you Adept III for you taunts as minimun.if you prefer Master Crafted armor is good, but don't buy at 20's, you will pass so fast that zone, if you want buy at 32 or 42. you will spend a lot of gold even plat, but a good tank is heavily armoredalso, as good tank you need experience, you need to learn how to pull mobs, how to control the agroo, etc. experience you get when you get in groups.also we have the spell for revive, thats a good option for us, and we have amends, we can transfer aggro like 40% from someone to us, if you have master or adepts III.if you want solo, you can use 2h, but when I group and I'm going to tank, I use a shield and sword, and talking about swords/lances/hammers, etc, we have new revamp for the weapons, we have some delay in our attack, now we make more damage and some MC weapons have aggro generator for us.check this other guides in EQ2 wikifor AA for paladins<a href="http://eq2.wikia.com/wiki/Paladin_AA_Guide" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://eq2.wikia.com/wiki/Paladin_AA_Guide</a>for Tanking 101 -- Good guide ---<a href="http://eq2.wikia.com/wiki/Paladin_Tanking_101" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://eq2.wikia.com/wiki/Paladin_Tanking_101</a>for Off Tank Guide Paladin<a href="http://eq2.wikia.com/wiki/Paladin_OT_Guide" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://eq2.wikia.com/wiki/Paladin_OT_Guide</a>good luck
