Dumb question of the week - Dispel Magic

<p>OK, please forgive this dumb question I should know the answer.. but I don't.</p><p> What is the point of dispel Magic? Is it for PvP use? Or PvE? I have tried using it on mobs in PvE and it does not seem to remove any beneficial spell effects they have on them?</p><p> Do any other wizards use this spell? If so in what context?</p>

<p>I use it in PVP for stripping random buffs off some mage or priest. It may help you greatly if it cancels the right buff (elemental damage shield on priest, for example).</p><p>No useability in PVE that I noticed... I do not think that I ever succeeded in removing any buff with Dispel Magic from a mob.</p><p>P.S. This spell was there even when there were no PVP servers around, so I guess it may do something useful... occasionally. Just be sure you use it on mage- or priest-type monsters only, it won't remove anything from scout- or fighter-type.</p>

This spell's been here since the game started (or at least for the four years I've been playing), and I've never once found a use for it. Basically, I believe it's an idea devs had that wizards would be able to cancel out other casting classes' buffs, being the master of arcane arts and all, but it never really got put into play effectively. I wouldn't worry about it.

<span style="color: #3366ff;">I've never used mine to dispell... ever.  I only use it for an extra quick throw of frigid gift when it's up.  Otherwise... purposely trying to dispell one buff from another player in pvp is a waste of time.  but in pve... ya got me there.  no clue, i've never seen it work.</span>

Only time I've ever used mine is for Woushi. That and Cure Arcane. Think they nerfed Woushi and other EoF mobs so you dont need em' any more tho.

Never use it with my wizzie, use it all the time on my Necro to trigger Tainted Heals.

<p>I know that with the coercer dispel magic AA (adds mental dispel) you can dispel buffs like tandem or harmonious link on mobs. Don't know if it works on wards.</p><p>problem, caster/priest mobs don't have buffs on them. so hard to debuff them. the scout/fighter buffs are not magic buffs so doesn't work on them.</p><p>so it has very little use in pve.</p><p>doesn't even work on mob like leviathan> Tried it once, got reflected and I debuffed my magi shield. Don't get why druids can debuff him while mages can't.</p>

<p>Also works on the brick named TSO mob (forgot zone, but he is on the catwalk with a bunch of brick throwing mobs) that tosses up 4 stoneskin+ buffs throughout the fight.</p>
