First, about me, since I'd like to both praise the game, and roll the dice that I may find an old friend or guildmate here. I am known in MMO land as either Chikkin or Dook. I /played over 450 Days on Everquest 1, Quellious server from mostly 1999 to Relase of Luclin. I have however played a few stints since then as recent as last year. At the time, I was Chikkin the Bard or Turkee the rogue. I was in the top raiding guild of the time of that server. Last year I was on the Erollisi server as Trace the cleric, or Kerz the berserker. I then played Dark Ages of Camelot from Release to Trials of Atlantis. I was known as Dook the cleric and variations of the "Dook" name. Same as EQ, I have played a few stints since then, as recent as last month. I was on the Kay and Gaheris servers. I had 8 50's over there, but it doesn't take long to level in DAoC anyway. I was in and . That's where I've played the most. However I also had a short stint on FFXI as Dook the White Mage, and two short stints on WoW as "Atc" "Dorf" and "Pfc" on the Thunderhorn and Thunderlord servers. But anyways, I'm not here to post my life story, I just know that several of my old EQ and DAoC friends played EQ2 at one time, and might still be playing, so maybe they will see this. I put off ever trying EQ2, I'm not sure why, but I just never did, even though I spent so much time in EQ1. I downloaded the trial, not expecting much, and and honestly expecting dead servers. I'm really surprised, and impressed. I purposely chose the AB server for population.. and I rolled a Templar a couple nights ago. He's currently level 10, name is Dookplar. Both me and my buddy who has just as much if not more MMO experience had always skipped EQ2 and we're both pretty much dead set on subscribing here in a week or so before our free trial period ends. If any of you are AB players and wanna catch me online, feel free to send me or my buddy "Myric" a tell. I had no idea EQ2 was so good. It's everything I liked about EQ (mostly the lands and story and rich background) with all the updates/modifications EQ needed but never got, or was too old to receive. I absolutely love all the voice acting as it really adds depth to the quests. The game is beautiful and we all already know the land of Norrath is masterfully done. Easily the richest lore in any MMO. (Save LOTRO ..which how can you compete with? lol)That being said. Here's a few questions off the top of my head, I might have a ton more later. 1. Was EQ2 always this good? Or have they improved it 10-fold over the years (like I hear they are trying to do with Vanguard)?2. The sense I get from reading the forums is that EQ2's population is increasing, or at the very least maintaining. Is this what the veterans are seeing as well? It honestly does not appear to be slowly dying yet as all mmo's eventually do. DAoC is all but dead, and EQ has probably another 5-10 years in it, but the popluation lowers every month. 3. I see Kunark expansion was a good seller, as it should of been, all EQ players know the best two expansions were the first two. Kunark and Velious. This next expansion doesnt look so promising however, could someone point out to me why this expansion would sell? Besides just being... a new expansion for people who are bored?4. I glanced at VP. I didnt do alot of research.. but I see Trakanon is there, along with the originals and Phara Dar. Is this correct? What's the story on that? Who's in Seb now? 5. Cazic Thule was a favorite dungeon. Is the layout similar at all to original EQ, or does EQ2 tend to do their own thing with old zones and old dungeons?6. Is there any unkillable (or originally meant to be unkillable) mobs in the game, like Sleeper was at Velious release?7. Are raids in eq2 the 35-60man 4-8 hours (not counting wiping and corpse runs) that eq1 had?8. From what I've read on the forums, although not quite the speed of WoW, leveling in EQ2 is suppose to be much much faster and much easier than EQ1. You're even suppose to be able to solo to 80. Is this realistic? No, I'm not looking to be antisocial, in fact I rolled a Templar, not a necro. However, I have short durations of play time at times, and when I deploy next month, I will be on Middle Eastern time, not US time. So a good chunk of my leveling may be done solo. 9. I had considered two boxing, more specifically, dual logging on one comp, but I dont think this laptop can handle it. Am I right in assuming that even tho I can dual log eq1, daoc, and wow no problem, that eq2 requires a massive amount of resources, even on the lowest of settings? Does EQ2 even have alot of 2boxers?10. In regards to solo'ing.. my buddy and I travelled up to Blackburrow and a level 12 gnoll almost ate right through him. (he's a level 10 berserker) and my heals could not keep up. (level 10 Templar). Is this normal? Or is it because we're brand new to game, poor, and have no gear?11. I glanced at the broker, am I way off, or is EQ2's economy MUCH less forgiving than other MMO's. Seem's like a plat is alot on this game, and people seem to ask for 20-50g for one level 12 item. Now lets talk websites. 12. Where is the best filter for EQ gear? Allahkhazams? Or do people use something else?13. What are the absolute best leveling guides or where are they found?14. Or perhaps easier, where is the "normal" path people take to level up to say 40 or 50? I know there's probably plenty of choices, but for first time go, I was curious the zones that are most popular or considered easiest leveling. I will explore the whole game however. For example in original eq, it was like CT from 25-35, lower guk or sol b from 35-50 then you went to kunark and leveled in seb or howling stones (charasis) or karnors to 60. More options came with expansions.. but I know you guys get what I mean. 15. What about class specific sites? I looked for about 30mins last night and I didnt come across any real good Templar sites or forums. I mean, everybody knows there was eqdruids or monklybusiness or goberserker etc. What is there for Templars?16. Back in reference to the broker/market. Is it just me or is this one place where Eq2 is lacking? Even Eq1's bazaar menu was much more user friendly. It would list alot more than 7 or 8 items per "page" and had alot more options. For example if I searched a bp with wisdom from level 1-20, I could list by amount of wisdom from least to most etc, not just Name of Item, level, or price. Is there a better solution, or is everybody just use to EQ2's market the way it is?17. Oh what is the top 2 or 3 guilds of Everquest 2? The Fires of Heaven, Afterlife or whatever of this game? Those guilds usually have active forums, and great place for seeing the end game content and what kind of gear is considered best. Perhaps more specifically, what is the lead guild of A. Bayle?18. Is there -anything- else a veteran eq2 player wish someone told them when they first started? I did read the entire "things I wish I knew when I started" faq. It was very informative.I cant believe i've managed to come up with this many questions, completely off the top of my head. I thank any and everybody for any help I get. The community seems really friendly and pretty loyal to each other. Is reputation a big deal same as EQ? Everybody knows who everybody is?Thank you tons, Dookplar

I'll attempt to answer your questions.1) EQ2 has certainly been changing (whether you consider the changes good or bad) such that the game now is vastly different from the game at launch.2) I haven't noticed any significant decline.3) It's hard to say what everyone wants because everyone plays differently. For me it's always the new zones to explore.4) I have no clue what you're talking about. Must be an EQ1 thing.5) *shrug*6) I don't raid, but Nagafen is a good 20 levels higher than the cap, IIRC. I imagine that would make for a tough fight.7) Raids are limited. x2 mobs are limited to 12 people, x4 mobs are limited to 24. I'm not sure if there are x3 mobs, but there aren't any higher than x4 to the best of my knowledge.8) Yes, soloing to 80 is certainly realistic. It may be slower with a Templar though.9) Yes, EQ2 is a resource hog and yes, there are quite a few who 2 box.10) Check the con. A level 12 can be amusingly weak to hideously powerful depending on the arrow status. I imagine if you were having such a tough time, that gnoll had some up arrows, which add roughly three levels of strength per arrow. Down arrows do the opposite, and make a mob weaker.11) Personally I think the economy is still reeling from the introduction of transmuting.12) I use allakhazam for quests and such, but for gear I tend to simply search the broker.13) The EQ2i wiki, I guess. That's what everyone seems to use for the solo timelines.14) It varies greatly. But currently the best places are the newer ones introduced with ROK and EOF because of the quest rewards.15) I don't know of any good ones. I always use these forums, EQ2Flames, and in-game chat.16) I wasn't aware there was a problem, so I guess for me ignorance is bliss. Though there are of course elements of the broker UI that I would like to see improved.17) *shrug*18) Actually, I don't think being told the deepest darkest secrets of EQ2 would have helped me any. Ultimately it's all about play experience, and while you can say "I wish I knew earlier", it probably wouldn't have done you any good. All things in good time, and all's well.

<p>1. It was always well set-up. The game has made changes, and it has (imo) taken alot of the original challenges out. The game has always been good to look at and play though and didn't have bugs like VG.</p><p>2. It flucuates, certainly there was a time it was low. The game is holding well against the competition. I feel like it's growing.</p><p>3. The great thing about the expansions is if you buy the expansion box - you get all the previous expansion with the game for basically free. I'm not as excited about this expansion as I was for Kunark - but I would says till worth buying.</p><p>4. I'm not 75+ in level, so can't answer</p><p>5. It's not similar, it's not like it used ot be and people barely go there when you compare to EQ1. It's a 40ish level zone and while it's ALOT of fun, it's not THE hopping place.</p><p>6. None that I know of.</p><p>7. answered above - and they start at lower levels - with mobs spread aross all play zones that appear for raids 2-4x</p><p>8. This is where the game imo, is VASTLY different than EQ1. This game is highly soloable with - if you have pateience and know your class and capabiilities - any class. In the past, due to lower server pops, I know alot of current vets that soloed their way to the cap. The quests are set up for both - you can easily find either group or solo quests. In EQ1 there was alot of grining for levels... questing is the way to go here and it's not so much mob kill grinding. There is no end all be all tank, and no end all be alll healer - yes there are preferences and debates - but it doesn't KILL the makings of a group to not have class a. </p><p>9. There are alot of 2 boxers - need a good rig.</p><p>10. templar, imo is a weaker healer. I prefer the druids or even shaman.. druids are regen based healing but have nice firepower, shaman are preventative but I could keep my guardian hubby up. </p><p>11. A plat does seem like alot when you start out. As you progres sin levels, rewards are better in money.</p>
<p>If you don't mind me adding... And anyone can correct me... We just came back ourselfs. Before we left I leveled my Templer to level 54. What is differnt about Templers is they heal by midigation. That means the better the armor your zerker friend wears the better you will heal. Where as if you like tryed to heal a wizard, because of low midigation or armor you dont heal as well. Unless they changed it which i doubt... That is why you had a hard time keeping your friend alive.. Also the reason we left is the ^^^ thing. We play mainly with my wife and I. With that said you cannot go into oblisk of dark souls, or stormhold keep or crush bone keep, or frost fel ...etc. with a two man team and expect to live. Because of this we left. We couldn't find a group or a guild that would help us.</p><p>Ok so now were in a guild. I ran into a very nice guy in Vanguard, who let us in there guild in EQ2 and we are now enjoying the game. I will say it is one of the best games I have played. But the group thing is still out there.</p><p>One thing I think would be cool is if you could buy for a short time npc to help you fight. Then lets say your doing the boots quest and needed to kill blood talen and no one was around you could hire a npc or 4 and kill blood talen and get the credit.</p><p>Anyway welcome to EQ2 hope you have a lot of fun <img src="/eq2/images/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></p>

Or have they improved it 10-fold over the years (like I hear they are trying to do with Vanguard)?<span style="color: #ff9900;">Very subjective question, this. It's changed a lot, and some people consider the changes to be "dumbing down" the game. Personally, I've liked most of the changes. If you really want to see them all, you can look at all the game update posts on the developer forums.</span>2. <span style="color: #ff9900;">It's probably holding steady right now. RoK did bring in a lot of people, but it's actually pretty thin on content, and add that to the level cap raise, there's not as much to do at 80 as there was at 70. However, they recently did a promotion aimed at getting old players back into the game, and are making strides on getting new players, as well.</span>3. I see Kunark expansion was a good seller, as it should of been, all EQ players know the best two expansions were the first two. Kunark and Velious. This next expansion doesnt look so promising however, could someone point out to me why this expansion would sell? Besides just being... a new expansion for people who are bored?<span style="color: #ff9900;">I can't really answer this, since they've released very little information about the lore yet. It is going to involve the shadow realm, which has been invading since game launch (they've pretty much taken over the Rivervale area, for example). It will definitely sell to the level 80 crowd, since they are pretty starved for new content at the moment.</span>4. I glanced at VP. I didnt do alot of research.. but I see Trakanon is there, along with the originals and Phara Dar. Is this correct? What's the story on that? Who's in Seb now? <span style="color: #ff9900;">Venril Sathir is ruling from Sebilis now. I haven't been to VP yet, so I can't comment on who is there and why. If you're interested, there's a Lore forum further down the board that will have many Norrathian historians who can give you the lowdown on what's going on in Seb and VP.</span>5. Cazic Thule was a favorite dungeon. Is the layout similar at all to original EQ, or does EQ2 tend to do their own thing with old zones and old dungeons?<span style="color: #ff9900;">I played EQ1 for three years, and for the life of me, I cannot remember CT from there. I'm sure I went, but I can't remember. EQ2 CT is a level 45-50 heroic dungeon, and also home of the contested version of Venekor. It's full of lizardmen and Thulians doing evil things.</span>6. Is there any unkillable (or originally meant to be unkillable) mobs in the game, like Sleeper was at Velious release?<span style="color: #ff9900;">Nagafen. He's level 100x4 epic (4 group raid target). With the level cap at 80 now, I'm sure the mega guilds will start to look his way when the level cap raises to 90, though I don't see him falling until it reaches 100.</span>7. Are raids in eq2 the 35-60man 4-8 hours (not counting wiping and corpse runs) that eq1 had?<span style="color: #ff9900;">No. Raid size is limited to 24 max. While there are a couple of raids that are long (Emerald Halls springs to mind), most are doable in anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours. Almost all raid instances are persistent, as well, meaning they can be exited and re-entered for a set period of time, spanning from around a day to as many as 9 days, so the pressure to finish it all in one night is alleviated.</span>8. <span style="color: #ff9900;">Any class can get to 80 solo. Even templars, though they tend to find it slow going. But if you find even one other person to group with, you can do much more, and do it more quickly. And just because a quest or area is flagged as solo doesn't mean you have to do it solo.</span>9. I had considered two boxing, more specifically, dual logging on one comp, but I dont think this laptop can handle it. Am I right in assuming that even tho I can dual log eq1, daoc, and wow no problem, that eq2 requires a massive amount of resources, even on the lowest of settings? Does EQ2 even have alot of 2boxers?<span style="color: #ff9900;">There are quite a few 2boxers. No idea how they do it, personally, as I can barely keep up with my one at a time. <img src="/smilies/283a16da79f3aa23fe1025c96295f04f.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></span>10. In regards to solo'ing.. my buddy and I travelled up to Blackburrow and a level 12 gnoll almost ate right through him. (he's a level 10 berserker) and my heals could not keep up. (level 10 Templar). Is this normal? Or is it because we're brand new to game, poor, and have no gear?<span style="color: #ff9900;">Here's the deal. A mob that's level 9 won't be 1 level less tough than a level 10. It will be more like 3 levels less tough. When you hit a new tier (and if you need an explanation of the tier system, just ask), there's a fairly significant bump in mob difficulty. One big reason for this is that the devs are, in their not-so-subtle way, making you aware that you need to start upgrading your gear and spells/arts. Also, was the gnoll a heroic mob or a solo mob? That's another huge difference.</span>11. I glanced at the broker, am I way off, or is EQ2's economy MUCH less forgiving than other MMO's. Seem's like a plat is alot on this game, and people seem to ask for 20-50g for one level 12 item. <span style="color: #ff9900;">Without knowing what you were looking at, I can't say why your items were that costly. Tier 2 treasured stuff should go for 1-3 gold apiece at most. My advice would be for you to ask in channels for a friendly tradeskiller to make you some new gear and upgrade your spells/arts. Common crafted and apprentice 4 stuff should be very affordable, and will give you a really nice power boost.</span>Now lets talk websites. 12. Where is the best filter for EQ gear? Allahkhazams? Or do people use something else? <span style="color: #ff9900;"> <a href="http://www.lootdb.com/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">LootDB</a></span>13. What are the absolute best leveling guides or where are they found?<span style="color: #ff9900;"> <a href="http://eq2.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">EQ2i</a></span>14. What about class specific sites? I looked for about 30mins last night and I didnt come across any real good Templar sites or forums. Is there a better solution, or is everybody just use to EQ2's market the way it is?<span style="color: #ff9900;">Um. Not being in game at the moment, I can't remember just how detailed the search function is. There is an Advanced Search function that will allow you to choose chest, plate, templar wearable, primary stat Wis, between levels 1-20, but I can't remember if it actually lists the amount of wis in the find.</span>17. Bayle?<span style="color: #ff9900;">Lordy lord, I have no idea. I could, in a pinch, maybe list the top 3 guilds on my own server, but that's it. The EQ2 Players site keeps all sorts of lists, and EQ2 Flames might have something. But I have no idea.</span>18. Is there -anything- else a veteran eq2 player wish someone told them when they first started? I did read the entire "things I wish I knew when I started" faq. It was very informative.<span style="color: #ff9900;">Hm. I think my big piece of advice to someone who comes here from another game (most specifically from EQ1) is: Don't roll the same class you had in the other game. They won't play the same at all, and you'll most likely be disappointed or disoriented by the differences. Pick out something entirely new, learn the game, and then maybe go back and try that class. You'll enjoy it a lot more once you have a better feel for how the game balances the classes.</span>I cant believe i've managed to come up with this many questions, completely off the top of my head. I thank any and everybody for any help I get. The community seems really friendly and pretty loyal to each other. Is reputation a big deal same as EQ? Does EQ2 even have alot of 2boxers?</blockquote> <span style="color: #00ccff;"><b>People do 2-box. YOu might manage it on a dual-core system, but I'm highly dubious your laptop will do it. That will show you how your machine stacks up and will suggest what you may want to upgrade. Excellent replies. Especially the last two.I got it. Start using lootdb, become one with the EQ2 Wiki, check eqflames as another msg board site. Use the quest solo time line's page for leveling. Also, VS took over seb? No way. He was SUCH a pushover. Not in the lore, he was quite the champion there, but in the Kunark expansion of EQ1, he was killed within the first week of the expansion even though there was a 10 level increase from 50 to 60 at that point. I love eq lore. I wonder how they explain Naggy as being ultra powerful now? Originally he and Vox were the first (and thus lowest level and easiest) dragons of Everquest. After reviewing the maps, no CT is not the same, but if it's full of livardmen, that's the same. So Seb is Undead frogs now? Old version of Seb was live frogs, with a small section called the crypt being undead frogs. I can't wait to go to either Guk or Seb, as I find nothing more fun than killing frogs. Except maybe spirocs, gnolls, orcs, kobolds, goblins, drolvarg, and lizardmen. I appreciate the answers guys.
<p>I thought I would add a link to the xanadu site, which is my favorite loot site for ease of use. You can use the search feature or just browse, pick the raid zone and boss and see pictures of all their loots. <a href="http://eq2.xanadu-community.com/items.php?page=search" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://eq2.xanadu-community.com/ite...php?page=search</a></p>

VS is no longer any kind of a pushover. As a matter of fact, he's one of the hardest raid targets in the game right now. Such a pain...the dev who designed that encounter is some kind of obsessive-compulsive masochist. :pNaggy got powerful, but Vox got deadified. There's a quest line around level 45-50 that has Naggy sending you to revive Vox.There are lots of old familiar faces. Oh, and once you get high enough, you have to go to Field of Bone. If it's up, you'll see a <i>Very Cool Thing</i>.

<cite>palaxe wrote:</cite><blockquote><p>If you don't mind me adding... </p></blockquote><p>Just to clarify this, in case there's any confusion on the original poster's part. Templars primarily heal using what's called "vitae", which are reactive heal procs (typically with 5 triggers) placed on a player. When the player is hit, the reactive triggers and they're healed. I believe you'll get your first version of this spell at level 12, called "Bestowal of Vitae" or something close to that.</p><p>Mitigation plays a role, but only because it allows the player you've placed the reactive on to live long enough to benefit from the heals that are triggered. Placing vitae on a Wizard doesn't work very well simply because the reactive heal procs can't compensate for the massive damage a cloth-wearer will take. You also have traditional single-target and group heals, but they're not nearly as power efficient as vitae is.</p><p>You'll find that your vitae spells will work best with plate tanks. Avoidance tanks, such as monks and bruisers, can prove to be more difficult because vitae works when the tank is getting hit -- and avoidance tanks, as the name implies, primarily work by avoiding being hit by the mob. In short, you are the primary healer for Guardians, Berserkers, Paladins and Shadowknights. Other more squishy classes tend to prefer shamans (for their wards) or druids (for their heal-over-time spells). But ask a plate tank which healer class he'd prefer in a group, the vast majority of them are going to prefer a cleric (Templar or Inquisitor). If you're doing particularly tough content and two healers are warranted, you'll pair well with both shamans and druids; clerics compliment both class types.</p>

<p>There is hardly any similarity between EQ1 and EQ2 zones. Like Felwithe and Kaladim are dungeons now, not cities. Freeport is still a city, but evil faction. There's no Halas. Kelethin, Qeynos, and Neriak are still cities and same faction. Steamfont is a 40+ zone, Lesser Fay 50+, Unrest is 60+, etc. CT bears no resemblance to EQ1's CT, except there are lizards in it. That's my biggest fault with EQ2, speaking as an old-timer. I wish they had changed the names instead, to leave room for the possibility of replicating old EQ zones. Some revenge would be awesome.</p><p>This game has improved tremendously since release. I pretty much abandoned it at release in favor of WoW (both of which I tried when released). I got bored of WoW a few years ago, and have been playing EQ2 off and on since then, and the improvements have been at such a steady pace that I'm amazed.</p><p>The EQ2 economy is the most healthy I've ever seen. The broker system is the best I've ever seen (no cost to seller, the buyer pays the fees, but as a seller, you can eliminate even the buyer fees). Crafting is so functional and profitable that you might even be crippled if you don't craft, unless you go the big group dungeon route, or harvesting resources to sell to crafters. Most likely the reason your level 10's got waxed is because you didn't have gear and spell/combat art upgrades, although you could have easily fixed that since everyone can make anything up to level 9, if you wanted to learn it. </p>

<p>4 RoK lore says that Venril Sathir claims to have beaten Trakanon which made him change his home to his own lair inside Veeshan's Peak. VP has all the bosses from original VP, layout has changed I think...</p><p>7 Raids in RoK are 24 people ones, and persistent. VP is quite a long raid but apparantly all RoK raid zones can be done in 8 hours. most reset on a 5 day timer though so... and for most raid guilds there's enoug content to fill 20 hours of raiding. </p><p>8 You could probably solo your way to 80 as a templar... it would just take ages more than for any other class in the game. My suggestion is, get an AA mirror, make a solo spec and a group spec and switch between these so you'll be able to do both as proficciently as possibile depening on how much time you have. </p><p>9 EQ2 is way more of a resource hog than those games, yes. but I do know people who have laptops that handles 2boxing. their's are quite expensive though.</p><p>10 his gear sucked, your heal spell sucked or you were fighting a heroic ^^^ (three arrows up) named mob which is suitable for full groups. I guess there could be something else.</p><p>11 not really no. when I had 700 plat I was about 50th wealthiest person on my server. so someone who has a level 80 toon is going to be able to get atleast a plat per hour in game on avarage. if you harvest or tradeskill this will go up by quite a bit.</p><p>12 lootdb.com, eq2.wikia.com and xanadu-community.com are the ones I use, never ala.</p><p>14 first 30 levels depends on what city you choose pretty much. it's after that it sortof evens out. </p><p>16 yeah, eq2 broker is lacking. compared to other games that is. but they have been quite sucessfull in keeping the inflation to a minimum, although every expansion causes the economy to inflate. so it will happen again soon. (no interface implementation really changes this as it's the underlying structure)</p><p>17 eq2flames is the best place for endgame forums and discussions by far. check it out.</p><p>18 join a guild that caters to all levels with alot of alts and casual players of all levels so you have people to group with alot, and if not that people to chat with.... always help other people in the guild as often as you can. then you will get helped in return much more readily, and you might not get a bad reputation or feel guilty about leaving. </p><p>And Palaxe, no your heals doesn't improve by the other person's gear. your heals improves by your gear. his survivability and the "effectiveness" of your heals increases with his gear because he'll need less healing.</p>
