UI killing FPS?

My buddy got a new PC recently.  3 gigs of RAM, 3.0 Dual-Core, Vista, yada yada..  Well, it runs great on high quality and better settings if you hit F10 a couple times to drop the UI.  But with the UI showing the FPS always drops considerably, like 35+ to 6.  I think thats a pretty dramatic change for just showing the stock EQ2 interface.  Any Ideas?

<p>Is your buddy using a "supported" graphics card?  My husband is having the same issue, though his graphics card isn't supported by the game.  I've done a little research into this phenomenon...  The EQ2 UI takes up SO much more in terms of graphics than does any specific zone or other actual game graphics, but that's unfortunately all I can find on the topic.  Good luck -- I hope you find your solution.</p>
