That would be the only reason I can see to take it.

I tank instances everyday and still wouldn't consider the aoe as a M2 choice.  I actually rarely use that due to the 2 second cast time and the fact that the little bit of damage it does doesn't really keep mobs angry at you for very long.  I also find it misses mobs quite often.  Who knows maybe he has good luck with it, but for me it doesn't help much so I was just curious.
