If you had a Wis/Int trained Troub, could you use a Ranged DPS/Buff/Debuff spot in Raids?

I.E. You sit back with your bow, throwing out arrows and ranged CAs and spells; whilst using the debuffs, etc?

I'm not too familiar with Bow combat in EQ2 but it seems to be an interesting side for the troub to explore. I'm not sure if the itemisation would work either.

you could yeah, but you would lose alot of dps following that tactic..

Indeed. For giggles I tried pure range on some SoH trash with my trusty Vexthorn. Wound up doing far far less damage than my usual melee range button mashing.

As i'm still interested in this concept of a Troub focused on Ranged attacks and spells and we have a new expansion...

Anything that the new expansion brings to the table that might help a Ranged Troub?

Would a Dirge be a better choice for ranged attacks?

Roll a ranger.

Neither bard is suited for range attacks only. With such a strategy you would be only utilizign half your dps spells and hence waiting for recast timers (wasted dps). Perhaps more importantly you would need gear with both range crit, range DA and spell damage to try to maximize your dps... that would be difficult to get such a combination of gear to get resonable stats. At least there is some gear with +spell crit/ +mellee crits for the hybrids but i dont recall seeing any +spell crit/ + range crit etc.

Throw a range CA/ auto attack on /inc and use range autoattacks on KB... that is all the range you should be doing.

However, for solo'ing gear with range crit/ snare procs is a reasonable strategy... i messed around with it a bit when i was trying to solo megadolon in JW like the rangers do... however my best run was to get him down to 70% or so. WTB a second snare!!.

Rolled an Assassin,

But I do like my Troub, and they do have a ranged AA line, just wondered how viable it was (at anything).

Get 75%+ ranged double attack and alot of range crit and you can do some pretty decent damage. A good ranger normaly has 50+% of his dps coming from auto attacks. You will probly always do better dps melee'n but for the times u need to range.

If you land a 12 Tone Earstone you can kind of do both. You can proc the earring effect and get to the sweet spot where your ranged abilities will light up. Then when you have no better melee based attack to use fire off the two ranged abilities and then restart auto attack.
