Greetings,Level 37 Defiler here and I have a quick question.I've done some grouping in my time as a Defiler, but I came across an interesting issue the other night in RoV.I had a Monk for a tank. Normally this wouldn't be a problem, cast a ward, ward takes damage and not the tank. However, when my ward was up, the monk still took damage as well as the ward. Not as much, I would guess about 50% ward 50% Monk damage. Whereas when I have a plate tank it's 100% ward when it's up.Anyone know why this is?Thanks.

There's two possible reasons:

1. Monks have a self haste that constantly drains a percentage of their health while it is active. Wards do not block this drain (nor do cleric reatives fire because of it, either). Both bruisers and monks have attacks that drain some health and less power than other attacks--I am not certain but I woudl assume that wards do not block this damage either.

2. Not all forms of damage are blocked by wards, though it is very rare when you come across a form of attack that is not. One instance is some poisons--for example, the scorpion named in the high-level Maiden's instance has a noxious damage-over-time which does massive damage. The damage from this DoT is not blocked by wards (though his other attacks, including autoattack melee, are absorbed by wards normally). That is the one and only case I can even think of off the top of my head, because of the severe amount of damage that this ability can dish out. I have a feeling anything that is percentage based simply isn't blocked by wards or are able to trigger cleric reactives.

I hope that helps. It has less to do with monks and everything to do with the nature of some attacks or buffs the class has.
