hey, i currently play a monk. when i made the monk i was looking for straight up melee dps (seeing as how i played eq1 for a couple years, i assumed monks were the same as they were there) but have recently been informed that monks are really a tankish class with moderate dps.so my question is this, if i want dps and soloability in a class, which would be more suitable? an assassin or a ranger?ive heard that rangers and assassins are nearly even in dps, but ive also heard people say this is far from true.any info would be appreciated, thanks

They are very close but a ranger is a bit harder to play, and not really melee dps at all. The gear a ranger needs is more specialized so there is less of it in the world and until you get some AA trees maxed out a ranger will cost more to play.

Though I do feel a ranger solo's better than an assassin, especially if you take a solo AA spec as oposed to a pure dps one.

Rangers will solo better, once you learn how to do it effectively. As Boramyr said as well, gearing a ranger especially towards T8 will start getting more difficult when you're trying to compete with other dps classes just based on availability. It will definitely be different then soloing on a monk, and either class will take time to learn how to do it effectively.

I answered your question on the assassin's board, but for the record, I agree with the above.

In a nut shell, I think rangers solo better than assassins because we can do a significant amount of damage before a melee type mob reaches us, even if we stand still. And we don't have to stand still.

i guess it all depends on your play style. I play an Assassin and i dont really have any issues soloing unless its a ^^ or higher heroic. Then i would have to try to kite it... which in most cases cant do it because of causing aggro adds.
