So I am back to Eq2 once again with a new machine but the performance is stunningly poor.

My new rig includes : AMD Phenom(tm) 9650 Quad-Core Processor - 4 Gigs DDR2 memory - ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2 - running Vista32

So I put the settings to high and my FPS was 20 stuttering to 10 in and around Tim Deep commpletely unplayable and enjoy it, dropping the settings to balanced got me around 30fps which is playable.

But surely I should expect better performance than that?

All of my drivers are upto date etc so can anyone help me with what the problem is?

Any advice appreciated thanks in advance.

I already had shadows turned off, I am honestly stunned at how poor Eq2 is performing with this machine.

Try turning off font smoothing. And to answer your question... no you should not have to deal with these issues on a new machine but join the club

Where do I find font smoothing in the interface options?

This is what happens when you play a game based on a game engine written 7 or 8 years ago. You can't compare this to games written after that. No one in 2001 or 2002 would even imagine video cards would be doing what they do....so the game was written to rely heavily on your CPU (back then it was more the power horse than your video card was)....We're all in the same boat. I have a brand new Quad Core Extreme and I ahve to turn things down. If it bothers you too much then I would suggest trying other games....I got used to having shadows turned off and things....its more the experience than the visuals of it all.
