Usefulness of tinkering/transmuting

Do these really matter to a monk?  Which, if any, nets a better gain for a monk.  With the high cost of transmuting and using the str line it seems pretty useless other than to sell the products.  Looking through the tinkering stuff I cant really find anything that useful to anyone.  Am I missing something important about these subclasses?  What makes them worth using?  What makes them worth using for monks??

Not much use to tinkering.  You get a 2nd feign death, but at high levels I guess our FD skill wont fail much.  You get a very good de-agro item for when you arent tanking, but I think getting agro isnt that much of a deal for us.  You get an antonica and a commonlands portal device, but then you dont have to be tinker to use them.  Not much else.  Theres the fun devices like cow thrower.

What makes them worth using for monks??</blockquote>The thing to remember with Tinkering is every expansion brings the possibility of new recipes.Right now the most useful items for a monk would probably be theressurect item for when your healer forgets to pass out feathers, the Mender bot, the portals and the 2 extra fd's for failures. Even the over charged manastonecan be useful in emergencies.

Spent about 180pp on transmuting...made about 45pp back since.  There's not much in it because so many have it, and so few need anything from it... PERHAPS in the next expansion it might be worth persuing..but for now, its a maaajor waste of time and $ -- Coz
