First noticed a problem last week. No installed games would load on the computer (Windows games like Chess worked ok). At this time we noticed there was no sound. We would try to load EQ and when the music should play, the screen stayed black and the computer ran like sludge. We tried Oblivion and got to the startup screen but the mouse pointer would BARELY move, with intermitent freezing.Device Manager showed the IEEE Bus Host Controller was not running because not enough free resources were available. It should be noted that no new hardware was installed and the only software that changed were Microsoft Updates, the latest EQ2 patch, and Apple I-Tunes update. Everything worked pristine prior to these.Did a full virus scan with latest definitions and Windows Defender scan...came up clean. Defragged the hard drive.I tried rolling back to the 1st of August and that didn't help.

I uninstalled a buttload of programs, like all Roxio programs, Google updater, Safari (came with the latest I-Tunes), Firefox, and misc. games not played in awhile. That HELPED. EQ2 and other games will run normally. Sound came back. HOWEVER, now the USB drivers don't load for some devices. I have to open Device Manager and disable and enable the device to force the driver to load.It really sounds like a virus, but I can't find one in any scan.Any thoughts?

Just a personal preference, but when windows starts acting that nutty I usually nuke the drive and do a fresh install. (probably once a year on the gaming rig since it gets abused a lot). Sure it's a pain for a while, but it cures what ails ya unless it's a hardware issue. It may be that one of the techies can come up with something less drastic for you though so don't take my word for it yet.
