Yesterday night I was playing eq2 fine and all, but when I logged on this morning, my comp restarted. I tried 3 more times and every time I got in the game, I would walk around for a couple seconds, and then my computer would restart. I know that this is just eq, because I am still able to play all of the other games on my computer with no problem, and I know that it is not a driver issue because I have been playing eq with the same drivers for awhile now with no problem. Can anyone tell me what is wrong?

It very well could be an overheating issue. Make sure all of your fans are working and clean out any dust bunnies about.

I wouldnt be suprised if it was an overheating issue, ill go get a compressed air can today and clean out my fans.

In the meantime, I got some information on my error. I disabled the automatic restart upon system failure, and got an error message on the bsod. It gave me this:

Stop: 0x0000008E (0xC000001D, 0xE15B9869, 0xA6F7988C, 0x00000000)

Upon restarting and logging back into windows it gives me an error message that says I have recovered from a serious error. The error signature is as follows:

BCCode : 1000008e

BCP1 : C000001D

BCP2 : E1346869

BCP3 : A96F388C

BCP4 : 00000000

OSVer : 5_1_2600

SP : 2_0

Product : 768_1

The items that it says are included in the error are: (the tildes are at the top for some reason, if that matters)

C:DOCUME~1OwnerLOCALS~1TempWER2ff7.dir00sysdata.xm l

C:DOCUME~1OwnerLOCALS~1TempWER2ff7.dir00Mini082008-02.dmp

If it matters, I ran a registry cleaner and it didnt help. Also, I am just curious how it could be an overheating issue overnight? Another thing, I looked up what I could find about error code 0x0000008E and, even though the rest of the code did not match mine, it said that error codes that contain 0x0000008E are generally hardware compatability issues, but how is that possible when it worked the night before and several months, even years, before w/ no problem?

I would appreciate the help so much, and thank you for your time.

Bad news, I completely cleaned out my computer, all the dust in the tower, on the graphics card, just laying about, in the fans, on the fans, and my computer still restarted upon entering everquest. If it helps, my computer restarts entering certain games, like Perfect World, Everquest2, and Oblivion. I can still play games such as Warrock and Combat Arms. It doesnt make any sense to me, but maybe it can help someone out there.
I recommend you to make extensive stress tests on CPU, GPU, Memory and Hard Drive. If any of those tests fails, then you know its related to hardware, so with a lot of chances overheating. You know, when computer do things like reboot, blue screen of death and stuff like that, there is a great chance that the problem comes out of a faulty hardware. For the CPU stress test, use Heavy Load. http://www.jam-software.com/freeware/index.shtmlFor the GPU, use something like AtiTools (works with nvidia too), Crysis Benchmark tool (you can run it with the demo of the game too), or 3DMarkFor the Memory, download the Windows Memory Test tool (google for it). Copy it to a diskette or cd and reboot. Just let it run for as much time as you want (it can run forever), but in like 30 minutes if should show any errors you could possible have in any memory module. And for the hard drive, i do not know any tool, but i think that just moving big data from a external hard drive into the HD and then in the other way should do the job. Also, use the CHKDSK /F on a msdos windows and reboot your computer to do an extensive test on the hard drive. Also, if you are using nvidia, check out in the main nTune panel something about Stability test. It should do the job, but for me it does not work very good, but anyway give it a chance first if you want. There is a nice option somewhere there to show temperatures and also log them to a txt file. Just let it logging on background and go for the crash.I hope any of that could throw any light to your problem.Good luck
