Hi all, I am new to EQ2, well, I played the first month but went back to EQ1 (wish I had come back here sooner, great game --- at least I am set on vet rewards). Having played around with a few characters into the 20's, I think I have finally found my new character, the swashy. I was looking at the fighters, how the tanking went down as the dps went up, ending with the brawlers ... I wanted to take that next step (a big one) down that chain ... a strong melee fighter that doesn't need to kite to get anything done. 80/20 dps/tank if you will.So far, swashy seems perfect. Not as survivable as the others, not a big name hunter, but fits my playstyle.I have been doing my homework on weapon delay, I found an OLD guide that said we want the fastest weapons we can get, to maximize some combat art we get later. But forum searches seem to indicate the opposite, everyone wants slow heavy hitters. But I can't seem to get to the 'why' part of things. Why slower?I am thinking that our strength line will make a weapon hit for closer to max damage? So the wide range gives more benefit to the strength aa? Is that it?Hoping for some input so I can make an informed decision. Does it even matter at low levels? It's not like I am ever low on power or waiting too long for a CA to cycle. Any input from the community would be greatly appreciated ... and someone point me to my first feathered cap!
Hurricane is the reason you would want a faster delay on a weapon. It gives you more chances to trigger hurricane. A popular tactic was to have a fast hurricane weapon and a normal weapon. Pop Inspiration and swap to the fast weapon for hurricane and once Inspiration/Insight wears off, swap back to your weapon. With the weapon changes (getting rid of dual wield weapons/making all dual wield weapons one handers, and the added delay to swapping weapons), I have found that this doesn't work as well anymore. Melee crit is the reason the high delay is desired. The higher the delay, the more of a spread typically on a weapon, allowing the melee crit to trigger and effectively maximizing the damage of the weapon. I don't remember if the weapon delay affects critting with combat arts any more... I believe crits from combat arts are based off of the casting time if I recall correctly. As your leveling, it doesn't really matter high or low, as long as you upgrade your weapons to the mastercrafted version along the way each tier. Once you hit 72+, you should start running CoA runs for Carotidcutter and at 80 work on your epic. And for your first feathered hat... http://eq2.wikia.com/wiki/Hoo%27Loh The quest you want is "Blood of the Brood"
