View Full Version : Raid bows looking like treasured/mastercrafted

I have posted this issue in another forum without no reply. My issue is pretty simple: why are raid bows look exactly like treasure or mastercrafted bows??? Can someone from the Dev team add a simple bow string to some of the hard earned raid bows like Voldrath (which looks like the "mastercrafted" Di'Zok Bow of Flame)???

When SoH rolled out, the raid bow Vexthorne has probably the best look in the game event though it comes off an easy tier 1 raid mob.

I can't imagine adding an effect like a bow string would take much effort.

Anyone?

Sony, hire this person, QUICK. He knows how long it will take to modify code he has never seen and has no clue how it works.

/sarcasm off

Sorry, but unless you have some knowledge of how the code is writen an implemented, then you have no knowldege of how long or how much work it will be to modify any one part of the code.

Yes, it could be a quick change, or it could be an art issue, that would have to have a skin for every race/class/gender/whatever and they would have to do it 1426 times to get it fixed.

We would all like to have our individule pet peeves looked at and corrected, but I would much rather have bugs corrected, and new content created then worry about the fact that the bow I am using looks like the piece of junk that drops off a level 15 quest (as long as the bow works and gets me the stats/dps/procs/damage I am looking for, it is a minor consideration on how it looks)

Bugs corrected? 1426 times to get it fixed? Do you even raid a ranger? (Never mind. You have already answer that question already).

I'm talking about something so minor that it will probably required very little effort and time to fix. The Dev team managed to add a whole new raiding zone within one GU, and you are spewing about how bugs need to be corrected or how long it is to modify code. Why don't you make a new post about it and stop spewing nonsense here. /sigh

This is an issue with many people. Gamers want to look unique. Having a bow that looks the same on 3 different bows (Example: Voldrath, Dragonhawk, and Di'Zok Bow of Flame) is horrible. All I'm asking is to change the look a little on the hard earned raid bows.

If you had read my first reply, you would have realized that I was trying to indicate that you have absolutly no clue of how long it would take to fix this issue.

As you said, it "COULD" be an easy fix, or like I tried to explain, it could be an art issure, that might have to have a new piece of art added for each race/class/gender because of different sizes, which might entale 10, 20, 30 or more art changes. Since art changes don't seem to ever be easy in this game, you could be talking about something that is NOT quick or easy. Neither of us know how long it would really take.

So, what you seem to be asking for is something that a LIMITED number of raiding rangers want for their LOOK, when there are bugs and issue in the game that affect all all raiders, or even most players in general.

I guess I just don't see the justification of having a dev work on something that affects a small minority of the population, when they could work on something that helped everyone.

p.s. this probably should be in the look and feel section.

Unless a Dev can say otherwise, I think i'm spot on.

As for the "justification" part, people who raid want to earn good loot that stands out and not look like an everyday item that the average player wears.

It's not a code issue to add new graphics, it's art. The big problem with bows is that they are one of the least seen slots in the game, and also have very few base appearances. Creating new graphics and particle effects for bows takes the same amount of time as any other weapon appearance, so asking an artist to devote their time to a new model that will probably be used on only 1 or 2 items is not an efficient use of time. The SoH bow got custom effects because I really wanted that zone to have a bunch of unique looking stuff, and spent a fair amount of time working with one of the artists to come up with some new looks. There isn't time to do this with every zone. That being said, I will see if there is time to make sure future raid bows (and possibly one or 2 current ones) get some custom particle effects. It's not that we don't want to add these things, we're just limited in what we have time to do. Everything we choose to create takes time away from something else we could be doing that other players undoubtably want.

I agree that having all kinda of effects on a bow would take some time (and I would not complain really), but I figured adding a simply color bow string would not take much time.

I know you guys are very busy and you do a great job answering our questions.

I do hope something happens shortly if anything. Same applies to Shields & Weapons - art is reused! The wish of looking unique (like u with your bow string request) is as old being able to dye your armor ... It will take tons of times to implement it and get it right without breaking stuff ...Don't fix what is not broken, imho! New Modles on the other hand are always welcome in an expansion ... when most is started form the scratch anyhow

One of my biggest complaints is that developers in EQ2 tend to make all the unique cool looking stuff so common that everybody has that graphic. The mythical weapons are a big indication of that since everybody has them and most are not easily disginuished mythical from fabled. When you ran around EQ1 you knew with a glance who raided and who didnt......in eq2 everybody looks pretty much cookie cutter.
