Ok, What ON EARTH is downloading here?

I go out and i buy everquest 2 vanilla. What i thought would happen was i would install it, it would download the updates and hey presto, im playing.<div>But updates arnt suppose to take 12 hours are they? I have a FAST connection, 8MB. No my internet is not going slow, but come on what is going on with this. Its been downloading now for over 5-6 hours, its now on Resources.res... what on gods planet is it downloading?</div><div></div><div>Much more of this its just getting uninstalled, i really wanted to play it as well.</div>

The basic game should be around 5-7GB depending if you had the optional content downloaded.  To answer your question more directly though.  You are downloading content and patches, which is not contained on the discs from your retail purachse( or the full game if you did a digital download)Do you have Windows Vista or XP?Vista should be ran as an administrator, by right clicking on the EQ2 icon and then selecting run as admin.  This will make sure that the game is downlaoding properly.  Also be sure to add EQ2.exe and everquest2.exe to your firewalls allowed lists.

Lets see...  a few years of free updates...   a few HUGE expansions  plus some smaller adventure packs....  there has been a lot of great content added in since the game was released.To be honest, playing the vanilla version of the game will put you at a negative in playing the game.  Had you purchased Rise of Kunark for 29.99, you would have received all expansions and adventure packs with it and only had to update the free mothly updates since November.....However, there is a new expansion due in November most likely.  Perhaps it will be an all in one pack again.Another trick is if the patcher seems to get stuck on a file, you can canel the download and then restart the patcher....  It will pick up where it left off.Welcome to Norrath!
