I'll give you better more focused answer then sending you off to a generic tech page without refining the search. In game, under performance, bottom slider called shader. If you are in town and need a smoother run around, sliding this to far left to disable it will greatly improve your performance, IF you have a lot of stuff already set high/onSliding this left will disable all shadows, lighting effect, bump mapping, flora, etc. This is a very nice instant on/off switch for a lot of effect. Once you do not need this mode off, such as back out in the gaming world or dungeons (besides the sewers) just pop back into option and slide that bar up to what you want or are comfertable with. The on/off mode works like night and day if you play with lots of high settings. Now, the above was just to help you alleviate system lag when in area that brings your system to its knees Now, if you are using a multicore CPU, then you might want to look at Process Lasso at:http://www.bitsum.com/prolasso.phpGreat program that will allow you to enforce any process running to one CPU, also allowing you to then assign EQ2 to different cores. This way, at least you'll have EQ2 running on a core almost by itself. The only big drawback, is that you'll have to manually set each process by hand 1 by one (set them using their 'default' options, not the current options. Once you've set all the processes the way you want, just export the settings for backup, and then set it to always use your current config. This option is under the 1st Tab called MAIN, and the option is called "ENALBE FORCED MODE"That will keep you settings each time you reboot your machine from now on.There's a bit more optimizing you could do if you read the previous guy's link deep enough. I haven't atm, only because I am sugar low and have to go grab some food asap. Hopefully this post gives you some idea on what to do.Note, FYI I am getting 10-15FPS in north qeynos on average with ALL settings maxed. I'm not talking just using the drop down menu under performance to select max. What I did was do that, AND then go to each setting and pump them up to their fullest where the max setting does not fully set to max at.I even have Vsync enabled to remove the graphical tearing when the game does a lot of updates due to fast turns etc.Note: I also force AA x8Q and 16x anistropic filtering within the nvidia control panel (override mode for everquest2.exe) My system is vista644GB DDR3 1600mhz speedQuad SLI with two 9800GX2 together2.66ghz Quad Core Intel cpu. model/version Q6700EVGA Ultra 790i mobojust to give you an idea of how resource heavy the EQ2 engine is compared to others. In vanguard, it is amazingly more efficient and prettier, giving you a smoother gameplay with better graphicsThe game is pretty and playable at 25FPS with all the above settings in the non city zones. ack, I gotta go. need sugar badly. see ya
