Ok, this is beginning to annoy me. It seems now that sony keeps adding more leather and chain healer drops that have awsome stats and cool bonuses on them, yet im seeing virtually no real plate healer items comming in, sure there are a few, but not nearly as many as there are leather that have the healer procs that help a lot. With the addition of the new dungeon contested loot that came in, there are nice leather and chain that im seeing and like no plate that has anything other than some iffy stats. Why cant they add more plate items that have nice effects on them outside of the raid zones. I see plenty of templar running around in leather and chain pieces just so they can get the healer procs and i just dont think that is a good situation for us. Sure a long time ago this would be no problem as we were able to regain avoidance for wearing lesser armor, but now your being penalized for not wearing your correct armor. I really just wish the item devs would break the trend of what seems 4 leather for every 1 plate added and also allow some plate to have the healer proc effects and some +healing.

Certainly it's been a sore spot for plate healers. Fyreflyte responded to this concern (at least a couple of times) in this thread: http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...topic_id=393544

Actually, I understood his position that there's no reason not to wear the best armor (at least in a group) if you can. I always felt, though, he was overlooking the fact that when you're grouped with non-plate healers, it's not likely that you'll be the one to get that gear. There are other issues, but you'd need to read that thread if you haven't.

As people stated, we are obviously supposed to wear everything else as well. There are a few items I actually would roll/bid on (chain hat from SoH, robe from Fear for example). Most templar dont' seem to have problems with doing that and just going in for leather and chain items as well but honestly on items that are not really powerful I just feel super bad for competing with other healer types and therefor I don't.It annoys the hell out of me because I still feel super bad for bidding dkp on the chain hat against the only mystic in SoH. Well that said - except for maybe three items there are equevalent versions of the plate and taking into consideration that one of the very powerful healer items is cleric only...it's a tough discussion really.Edit: Ah sorry, blah. Didn't read the title correct. Non raid gear..ignore my blabbering

We are not supposed to. It's possible, yes, but that doesn't mean it's a good idea.A templar's role is to be able to keep healing while getting a beatdown. We're the tanking healer. Now, it's possible that certain items' stats or utility exceed the expectations of armor type. The bp and hat from hate are the only two items I can think of. In the case of the BP, it has a protection value similar to the Legendary Plate BP's, anyway, so you're not giving up much, and you're gaining a heck of a lot more. But those items are exceptions, not the rule. And trust me, I ditched those crappy leather boots from Agony the second I had a replacement.

The Templar's maxim: If you're dead, you're not healing.
