***after no response in connection support, and Failed Livechat support; I suppose I'll try here.Even a tongue lashing for spamming the support boards is better than silence.***As a returning player, I have been playing fine for the free retrial time. No problems logging in during Legacy promotion.I purchased a subscription today and tried to log in a little later in the evening.Patcher runs fine, patches up, play button becomes available.I click play and after a few seconds the screen turns black, as it always has, with the EQ2 mouse pointer in the screen. And then after just a few seconds the program closes and dumps me at desktop.slightly disheartening /winkany ideas? It's been three buisness days with no CS response to my thread in Connection Support .I assumed the problem i am experiencing is a Connection issue and posted in Connection Support becuase I cannot stay connected to the game during initilization. I suppose I missunderstood in my thought process and maybe this is more in tune with this (Performance Support) forum. If this is not the place to recieve help with EVERQUEST2 not functioning, please tell me where to go for real support.to review. When I click on the EVERQUEST2 icon to fire up the game, the game loads the patcher, and patches up as always. When done patching the PLAY button becomes available. When I click the PLAY button there is a short pause, then the screen goes BLACK as it always has.The EVERQUEST2 mouse pointer is displayed on the black screen, for a few seconds.AND THEN the game crashes to desktop. I never make it to the next screen after clicking PLAY.I never recieve a crash message.IMPORTANT NOTES: 1) I played fine during the entire Legacy promotion. As a returning player I played for free during the Legacy promotional period. The game ran fine during this entire time. 2) I subscribed to the game, the same day that the game was patched for the new VOICE CHAT FUNCTION. 3) After subscribing to EVERQUEST2 (with 2 accounts!) and patching up, I have NEVER been able to log in. The game, which ran fine, up to the point of: A) Subscribing B) Patching the VOICE CHAT FUNCTIONafter which the game functioned again.so do i think its a router problem? noa firewall problem? noan antivirus problem? noet cetra.Tonight, I connected to Live chat, and spoke with TSR Nick M.chat as follows.--------------------------------------------Hi, my name is TSR Nick M.. You may also want to that try running a clean boot, by making sure all unnecessary background programs are disabled. Please follow the directions below on how to accomplish this.To disable background programs: 1. Select the START button2. Select RUN3. Type in "msconfig" (without the "4. Press OK5. Select the STARTUP tab6. For Windows 98/ME, uncheck all boxes EXCEPT for SCANREGISTRY and SYSTEM TRAY. If you use Windows XP, click on the disable all button7. Hit apply and then OK. Restart the computer when prompted, then try the game again. Joshua: ok, ill try those things. out of curiosity do you really think those two items will fix my problem, when i played the day before....then i subscribed, and there was a patch and i could no longer play?TSR Nick M.: Joshua, though I am hopeful that above two steps will solve your issue.TSR Nick M.: However, I would also suggest you to delete some files.TSR Nick M.: You may want to delete the following files and folders:cache foldereq2_recent.inieq2_default.iniEverQuest2.exee q2.iniAs well as the character specific files, these will appear as such:Servername_CharacterName_EQ2_uisettings.iniSt ationname_characters.iniTo do this, please follow these directions: 1. First look for your EverQuest II directory. You can find the directory in the default directory:2. Click on MY COMPUTERCRIVEPROGRAM FILESSONYEVERQUEST II3. Next look for any files explained above and delete them. 4. Afterwards, please start EverQuest II to have these files re-downloaded by the patcher. Joshua: ok sir, i appreciate your time and effort. if youve no further advice I'll wish you a good evening and end session.TSR Nick M.: It seems that some of the files might be corrupt causing this issue.TSR Nick M.: Delete those above files and then do the full file scan of the game. Joshua: yes sir. i will do thatTSR Nick M.: Is there anything else I can assist you with today? Joshua: that should do it for this session, thank you NickTSR Nick M.: Thank you for visiting our Sony Online Entertainment customer support chat. Take care and have a good evening! Joshua: disconnectedTSR Nick M.: disconnected-------------------------------------I did as he requested, and EVERQUEST2 functioned exactly as I stated above. EVERQUEST2 did NOT work, and these things did not fix my problem. unfortunately, Live chat had closed by that time, and here I am.Disabling background programs did not work.Deleting the cache folder, eq2_recent.ini, eq2_default.ini, EverQuest2.exe, and the eq2.ini Folders did not work. although it was fun trying to start the patcher without everquest2.exe. That felt like a fun prank.Deleting my Character files did not work. although I bet it's going to be fun trying to set up all of my characters UI's/spellbars/hotkeys, ect; again from memory. Disabling my antivirus and firewall, most of which were already shut off...did not work.running my ethernet cable directly from my modem to my computer, eliminating my router and my wifes half of the network; did not work.EVERQUEST2 functioned exactly as described above.***system information as per 'Sticky', can be found at http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...topic_id=425476if you could please use that link, which takes you to my post here on the EVERQUEST2 SUPPORT FORUMS (link does not take you to an outside page) rather than me going through, breaking up, and reposting ALL that information again it would be really supportive!
