So each machine is running a unique account, prior to actually noticing the problem I had not set up the ports noted in one of the stickies, but I have since. The XP based machine/output is heard fine by all passes tests fine etc. However the vista machine passes tests like a charm yet when you actually chat in game it is very very static filled. Windows firewall on both machines are also set up to allow all eq2 related exe's and ports are open on there as well. Also tried 3 headsets in total on the Vista Machine, 2 of the same kind which I had bought just to use on eq2 and an older headset I had been using on my xp machine for skype, yahoo chat etc. Lastely I noticed that the voice chat menu in game (Eq2 drop menu>>options>>voice chat options) displays on the bottom "windows is unable to detect mic settings" in red letters, yet this proves to be odd as the control shows the mic, etc etc, and I was able to run a skype chat very well. Again all these problems are on the vista machine.

Oddly, with the exact same USB Microphones (even tried swapping them) I'm having the same problem on the Vista Home Premium that I'm not having with the Vista Ultimate 64 Bit Version. I get feedback no matter how I arrange things and quite a bit of static.

Same here. I suffer from severe static while using vista as well. When someone talks, my ears bleed, but apparently I sound just fine. Steps taken thus far:

1) It's a known good head-set that works fine on other machines.

2) Made sure CPU is not at 100% or any other lag related ideas

3) Updated drivers and firmware all around

4) Tried lowering the voicechat volume in options (a guildie read somewhere that it helps) and all it did was minimize the bleeding

5) Clean boot

Still static. After talking (or should I say typing?) it over with guildmates, we came to the conclusion that it's a Vista compatability thing. I know there are people who use voicechat on vista just fine, so feh. I'm out of ideas and I'm not fond of an osri to XP, but I may have to resort to it.

Sorry for the lack of response, I have been trying to figure out and replicate this issue at home and here at work. If you could help out and answer some of the following questions. I am hopping to squash the static issue.Modem make/model?Firmware version?Wired or wireless connection? Are you using a router? What make/model?Firmware/bios version?Which version of Windows are you using?32bit or 64bit?Thanks for anything you can provide!

I can hear other people fine, and at first others could hear me fine, but i seem to have a random problem now where I break up really bad when talking to other people, Atm i'm useing windows vista 64 bit(forget which edition) and my modem and router are one and the same, got it from my phone company(telus) i'm currently on wireless, sorry, that info is probly near useless to you, just thought i'd state my issue since it's on here.

I don't have a solution for you guys except that I had the same problem

and bypassing the router solved it for me, this told me my routers firewall even if turned off was bugging it.

I set my PCs ip to the DMZ and it works fine for me. I don't browse much on that pc anyway.
