View Full Version : Upgraded player models coming soon?

Greetings,

I've been wondering If races such as Iksar, Frogloks, Ratonga, and Kerran's will ever see alternate upgradable player models like the rest of the races.. Everytime I log into EQ2, I see a froglok that stands more humanoidish and not like the hunchback of notredame. So, does SOE plan on giving the rest of the races new alternate models? Perhaps by the time the expansion goes live?

I must say I find the player froglok much nicer than the kunark one you are, I assume, referring to. (also, Ratonga are perfect)

The froglok player models and the froglok models from kunark are absolutely not the same races. The playable frogloks are called Guktans, and were evolved into intelligent beings by Mithaniel Marr. The frogloks of Kunark are still the less-intelligent primitive frogloks.

I really don't get why everyone is so upset about the revamp. It's like you all think you were supposed to get completely new models. The revamp would have affected only the skeleton and other minor things and you probably would not have been able to tell the difference between the two. It would only affect how the models show armor, and open up ways to add new armor models.

Long as they add more whiskers and don't change the fundamental basics of my Ratonga, I don't care. =P(Those basics being; bobbing tail when running and digi-grade feet. I remember early Screenshots when they were flat-footed, which just looks weird, heh.)

The model they showed us at LAST frigging year's Fan Faire actually did look a lot better overall, so yes, we did think there would be some improvement on how the actual MODEL looked, not just in armor appearances. And if SOE cops out on the armor and model revamp, after promising it for over a year and giving us nearly no information on its progress, I may well start looking for a new game.

I guess I'll have to wait to see exactly what they've come up with as far as the changes they ARE making to the models with these "snap ons." So I'll wait to see if I'm going to be disappointed with THIS year's expansion, by which time there should at least be guild halls. I do think they need to show off fewer things at Fan Faire that they won't be releasing for over a year though, unless they clearly state "These things are a LONG TIME IN COMING." It makes for less disappointment on the part of the players when we rush home with our stacks of notes and screenshots and talk up what we saw only to wait.....and wait.....and wait some more....and some more......and......

You catch my drift.

Not like communication as clear as Domino's always is on the part of OTHER dev's wouldn't help them immensely, too. Be honest. We're a lot more appreciative of your efforts when we know what it is you're actually doing and where we stand on stuff like this then to hear that you're actually no longer even working on something we've been waiting for for a year, and the vagueness of detail on what IS coming is pretty maddening.

It appears that the wait is over. They have abandoned consideration of a skeletal reavmp. Kind of ironic in a way. They couldn't make more armor and robe models because of the current skeletons. It was just too hard to do. Turns out that the skeletal revamp was just too hard to do also.

So the much anticipated and loosely promissed skeletal revamp now passes into legend. This could actually be somewhat of signature event in the world of MMO's. An MMO which survived on the release armor models for its entire life. Polka dot textures on robes cannot be far off. That is about the only texture they haven't used.

I thought using the alternate models made all the current models look much better than they are. (Not going to switch back to normal that's for sure!) Here's how female humans look:

So far I think the Dark Elves got the best end of the deal, the female models look nice in both versions imo.

The Monster races were intentionally left alone because the SOGA company thought they fit who they should be.
