I was extremely disappointed that the survey wasn't designed to capture feedback from existing players as well as returning players.  I feel SOE would have benefitted greatly from capturing much of this same information from loyal players.

I am in full agreement.  While I am thrilled to see SOE spend some time in trying to get new players in the game, they really should keep an eye on the players they DO have.  I know quite a few people who are upset over this summer's program. That being said, I don't think this is the correct forum for this discussion and it will probably be moved in the near future.

If they lose you they will try to get your back by doing a promo like Living Legacy part Deux!

That is exactly how some people view this program.  It isn't an image SOE should want to perpetuate.

While SOE is hoping that word-of-mouth from its existing playerbase will help them regain lost players, that-other-major-MMORPG struck some deal with ATI so, when installing their latest Catalyst, you are offered to install a trial version of said other major MMORPG.If I compare the two marketing techniques, I'd say one of them will probably do more to catch new players :/  I'm glad SOE finally did some kind of marketing push behind EQ2, but marketing limited to either the existing or past customerbase is a rather limited one.  And I'd be curious to see any number as to how many of those returned players are staying past the free period...  I'm sure their marketing department will be looking very closely at those numbers too.
