i'll bite.first off, i havent respec'd my monk aa's in what feels like a year. not because i found the perfect spec, but because there is nothing really special to choose from that will hinder you from choosing other lines. if that makes sense. you can put points in alot of the nodes. you can put 70 points into the tree after lvl 70. if you tank, put points tsunami recast reducer, and other defensive things like the temp mitigation buffs, and the taunts. I tried Combination, but never got much damage from it. Supieror Riposte is decent, if you are expecting a mob to AE soon. Max the heal AA. Cure enhancement is nice. if i'm not tanking the de-aggro stance is a must. im not in game to check other lines. but you can't go wrong when selecting monk aa's. they all range from 'hey thats kinda cool, i guess' to 'hmm.....can i put these in the brawler tree, please?'

Thanks for the replies guys/gals, I just wasn't sure if there was a sure way to go about it like on the bruiser's board they have it mapped out if you wanna be a dps go with these if you want to tank go with these etc..

The Monk AA tree line IMHO is completely worthless short of the increased heal and Mongoose stance for DPS. I specced in a way that gave me all 3 end abilities. Neither of them are worth much but I use them anyways. My personal plan is once the new exp comes out I will spec out of the Monk tree and fill up the new tree. Then work my Monk tree back up. Mainly because there is no way SOE could make more useless AA tree line so it's gotta be better.

There isn't a whole lot of good choices in our monk tree. One overlooked choice though is Body Like Mountain, 5 points basically doubles the mit which is good for spike damage imo.

Hope that link helps (or even works).

That is because the Stun makes the mit worthless.

Zabjade wrote:
That is because the Stun makes the mit worthless.
Well since Body Like Mountain is the ROOT mit buff not the stun one you are wrong. And a root is not nearly as bad as being stunned especially since it can be cancelled very quickly if you need to move.
Indeed, body like mountain is really useful.

Now I just have 5 in the root. It is useful and with a quick recast time it can be used nearly every fight.

Like Junaru, I use the root in alot of fights. It gives the extra protection needed when the healer gets behind, or when I expect some serious spike damage from a tough pull.

Ok guys, this is a noob question, please bear with me.

I have been reading a lot about the AA trees, and I see on the fourms info on spending points on STR, AGI, INT, etc. But on the game I have access to Monk/Bruiser trees with stuff like Improved Round Kick etc.

Is there another tree I am not seeing on the game?

Thanks for your help.

I would fill up your brawler tree before you even step foot in the monk line, to be honest. Once you're at that point though, here are the things I would suggest are essential. Put points into Heal. Its important. Get yourself 5 points in tranquil vision, the hate transfer is incredibly useful whether you're tanking or dpsing. Mongoose stance is important, once you get geared up you'll start ripping like mad from even the best tanks. I really like the upgrade to the monk self-cure spell as well--being able to cure traumas and the like turned it from a spell I didn't even have on my hotbar to one I use all the time. After that, it really depends on what you do--tsunami recast is really nice, so is extending outward calm's timer. I personally like combination, but you have to learn to use it or else you'll never pull the combo off.

Mongoose Stance isn't the be all end all to stopping you from ripping agro but it does help slow down your threat advance. But if your a heavy 2 hand user and you happen to Double Attack Crit out the gate it will put the MT on recaputre mindset really early on so still some moderation and attention would be needed. But for fast lighter weapons it does pretty much prevent you from ripping unless you really try for it.
