I am under the impression that you all have no difference with agro no matter the stance you are in. So if you are in defensive stance, you hold agro just as well as Offensive. Is that right?

Personally I find that it's quite a bit easier to hold agro in offensive stance. Most of our agro comes from damage... the taunts help a little bit.

Keep in mind that offensive stance gives us higher attack speed and pluses to slashing, crushing. piercing and ranged which help hit rate a lot when mobs a yellow or orange.

If i'm in a 1 healer group then I tank with ARACHNID stance (Master 1) ---> Decent DPS with a boost to defence.

If i'm in a 2 healer group then I tank in Offensive stance unless the MoB/Raid MoB is ridiculously hard.....

Note a warden boosts melee skills a lot, so it's easier to tank in def stance with one, if you choose.

I typically start in offensive stance when tanking a group, and keep an eye on my health. If it looks like the healer is having a hard time with the healing, I'll drop down to spider stance. I only use defensive stance on the occassional hard named mob that hits really hard and requires some special tactics. In that case I will use my defensive stance, throw up Tsunami and Stone Stance (or whatever the name of the defensive buff is) and go to town. Once that mob is down, I always reset my char back to offensive or spider stance.

The advice here it to learn to use your skills to meet the need as the game changes. One size doesn't fit all. The monk is one of the most versitile, challenging chars in the game. One that really requires you to learn to play well.

I rarely use anything outside of my off stance even when tanking. Like the poster above me, I'll start in off stance and then switch to my combo stance if the healer slow. Really the only time I use def stance is to tank named in a low DPS or slow healer group. I always feel like the additional DPS from the off stance holds agro much better.

Silke

I almost always use Mid-stance (the spider one). I uses defensive stance for tough fights and only use offensive when Im either not tanking or have tsunami up.
