View Full Version : BUG: SK Spell Cast Times

I posted this in the suggestion thread, but I think it's being interpreted as "We need faster cast spells as a class fix." This is a BUG from my testing. For example, our spells are shown as "1.82" cast time on the Examine are taking longer to cast in real-time than other casters when they have longer casting spells. An easy test... Crimson Circle. You can do a 4 Mississippi count by the time the spell is done casting. More than double the stated "1.82" second cast time. I can log on my Illusionist can cast Chromatic Shower and it's cast time on the examine is "2.19". It only takes a 3 Mississippi count to execute. Then I log on my lvl 42 Necro. I cast Draw Life (2.0 Cast time)... faster than an SK 1.82... THEN I cast Locust swarm (listed as 3.0) and BINGO that cast time matches the SK cast time of "1.82". This is not rocket science, test it out yourself... our spells are actually casting as 3.0 WITH a 10% cast bonus.

The follow spells are all affected. It's like we have some sort of cast reduction penalty.

Crimson Circle

Tap Arteries

Devouring Mist

Pain Wrath

Grave Sacrament

Grave Blessing

Fellow SKs, please verify this to make sure it's not an issue with my connection, computer, etc... as this would prove we really are "broken".

Well I dont think a Mississippi count is the most accurate way of determining if spell cast times are broken, but I did try using a stopwatch (again, probably not the most accurate) on Tap Arteries, Crimson Circle and Grave blessing. I got 2.16 almost every time, still more than the stated 1.82 time but again I doubt my using a stopwatch was the most accurate possible test.

I know the "Mississippi" isn't the best method... but it is pretty easy to determine that our spells cast longer than stated, especially compared to other caster spells with similar or longer stated cast times. Once again, there could be other factors at play that's why I want to see if other SKs are getting similar results.

Just use your logs to determine if the times are off. You get a time stamp for everything you do, from starting to cast a spell, to interrupts, to the spell actually going off. Then take the given times and subtract them...probably the most accurate way to determine if the spell times are really off or not. I know the 10 reduction is doing something because you certainly know it when it's not there, but I've never taken the time to actually check my spells and see if they're casting by the correct times they say they are.

Has anyone looked into this? I mean for a community so zealous about getting fixed I'd think you guys would be jumping all over this. Imagine if you logged in today and had a buff that said "Spell Cast: Neg 40%". Would you be like, "Oh well, whatever" and keep playing... cause that's pretty much what we're doing. I have a brand new computer with Broadband, I can raid at Screen shot settings... I turned down the settings to "Raid Quality"... I've tested this in several zones (JW, Darklint, Nek, Kylong, Vaults, etc.). There is NO WAY our casting spell speed matches the said "1.82" cast speed on spells. You can use a stop watch, head count, I don't care how "scientific" you want to be let me try to explain this again...

Caster A ( SK ) casts a spell that says 1.82 Cast Time... it takes roughly 2.5+ seconds to actually cast. (This is being generous)

Caster B (Necro) casts a spell that says 2.19 Cast Time and it casts FASTER than Caster A Spell.

Not "Gee, I think it's faster"... Blantenly Obvious that it's casting faster. Something is wrong with our Spell Cast Timers.

Are you getting hit in the middle of the cast?

No Group, no Mobs, No Loping Plains on the "1.82" Blue AoEs... The ones were you need to target a mob it's the first thing I'll cast.

This is definately an issue. Also related, have you ever tried to use the casting time and reuse time reduction equipment? That is also definately not working as intended.

Anyone have a saved spec without the STR line, it would be interesting to know how it is effected.

I'm Realy out of it, I did my timeings with STR endline spec still on and getting .40sec penalty on spells... When I get home will do it without that being on....

Tested and confirmed bug this morning. Respec'd out of Strength line, losing AVENGING INVIGORATION (10% reductions on casting time, reuse time and recovery speed.)

Using a Timex start/split stopwatch, I was able to verify the casting times being longer than stated in description. Not all however. Buffs seemed to be fairly accurate:

Reaver 2.73 listed, 2.77, 2.75, 2.76 actual

Summon Pariah 9.09 listed, 9.21, 9.22, 9.29 actual

Combat casting was where the discrepancy occurred. All abilities listed as 1.82 casting time w/ Avenging Invigoration reduction were affected (i.e. delayed.)

Tap Veins 1.82 listed, 2.22, 2.25, 2.23 actual

Life Pact 1.82 listed, 2.32, 2.30, 2.29 actual

Devouring Mist 1.82 listed, 2.15, 2.19, 2.15 actual

As you can see, given a slight delay for human twitch delay, combat delay is much more pronounced than Buffs in this example. Therefore it is easy to discern that Shadowknight are currently handicapped in combat with these increased casting times.

Thanks.. Thats pretty much what i got .. But posted in other thread... No difference with STR End Line buff being off. there was still the extra cast times showing up..

So thats not bugged, also double checked the other parts on it but it seemed fine..

I just don't how else to show this accurreing .. I would say logs but they don't show up as Milasec.. They just round it off.
